HELLO,
I have a A-99 and I kill everybody's electronics. Is there an antenna that does not bleed on everything? If so - what makes one antenna bleed more then the other? If the electronic equipment is picking up a signal how can an antenna make any difference?
THANKS FOR INPUT

Olds 442,

(great car!)

Before you spend too much time worrying about an antenna causing bleeding, there are some other questions to ask yourself.

1.) Are you running a modified radio? Many modifications (clipping limiters, "Turbo Tune", etc.) can result in greatly increased "bleeding."

2.) Are you running an amplifier? As with radio modifications, amps can really mess up nearby (and not so nearby!) radios, stereos, computers, whatever.

Provide more details about your setup, and the interference you may be causing, and the highly knowledgeable members of this forum will flood you with good advice!

Good Luck!

Bob

Thanks BOB,
I am running a Galaxy 2517 that is stock with a Turner Plus 2 desk mic that I keep turned down. I do have an old Palomar DX-200 tube amp but never use it unless it is late late at night. If I talk on FM(I NEVER DO THAT) I do not bleed on anybody. My problem is that I live in an apartment with my antenna on the balcony so I guess it is to close to everybody causing RFI/TVI..
Thanks for any help...

Using double shielded coax helps.
Coiling the coax tightly at the base of the antenna about 8 turns helps.
Shielded ground wire helps.
Keeping your modulation below 100% helps.
Getting the antenna above the roofline helps.

Warlock - Could you please tell me about coiling the coax. Do you mean wrap it around the pole 8 times?
Thanks

Exactly. You come off the coax connector and give some slack, then tightly make 8 turns and secure it in some fashion. It helps to feep the coax from acting as an antenna, also the shielded ground does the same. You can use the same coax for grounding as you do for incoming coax. Strip back to give enough center conductor to make the ground commection, do not allow the shield to touch the center. Do the same at the ground rod. Solid center heavy guage coax works best.
In an apartment it's nearly impossible not to bleed, but these are the best preventatives along with the other tips.

I don't think anything will help or stop the tvi untill you get that antron off the balcony, and above the other apartments. the interferance, or RF is doing what its suppose to, radiating off the antenna, lowing the power output of your radio will help, but then you can't talk very far.

I live on the 2nd & 3rd floor of a 3 story apartment building with 200 units. The antenna is on a 20'push up pole on my 2nd floor balcony that I push up at night & then lower in the morning. I really should not even have an antenna but I have lived here for 14 years and they are not going to tell me anything. When the antenna is cranked up it is right at the roof line. I am tring to get the antenna on the roof but I think they will make me take it down because it might get more looks. Do you think putting the antenna on the roof will help?

if there are trees around taller than the building id make a 1/2 wave wire omni fashioned after the starduster and hoist it up and store
the antron away.its alot less noticable than the antron and easy to work with.the curant bulan needs to be wound at a right angle of the antenna
at the feed point.

good luck

442, every A99 that I have ever had or had anything to do with was a good antenna, did what it was supposed to do. However, some are good yet very bad. They radiate well, but they can produce TVI bigtime. I think the report on the A99 in Subscriber section of this forum will be helpful information for you about this problem.

Some just make a lot of TVI. Probably most do fine, but IMHO the problem is with dressing the pigtail and soldering inside the base at the coil.

I do not know what can be done about it.

Put your A-99 in a piece of pvc pipe about
18 feet long and put a flag on top of the pipe.
so now you have A-99 flag pole. good way to
hide your antenna

606 - Are you serious? Will the antenna still work? What about the SWR?
Thanks

That doesnt seem right, Hell if you do that your SWRs will go to the moon and back!!!! I thought f you cut away some of the outside covering down to the shield then solder a section of wire to that it will help with TVI but i dunno bout cutting into the "hot" center section! Seems asking for problems to me IMHO.

its a fine antenna i own 2 of them. find away to ground it.also remember that if you put it in pvc that its has a volocity factor of .81(the pvc) and you will most likely have to at least retune the antenna rings and maybe alter the physical length. i do like the camouflaged idea though, plus you can fly the colors. also the wire antenna in a tall tree works well if ya have one close by.

good luck bullet

the ringo 10 meter is the worse designed antenna ive ever ran you can say what you want about a A99 i had one ran 500 watts into it never had a problem ... yep a bag of beads at the feed ... but that ringo never cut it. Strangly i had a HAM INTERNATIONAL CB antenna that worked almost 20 years never heard of them but a local cber gave it to me...untill a bolt of lighting fried it it was my main antenna simple but worked like a champ.

I run an old Avanti Sigma 4 that was made way back in the 1970s that works great! Very little TVI from it and great gain!
