how can you get better front to back separation on pdl-2, i have maco 103 3 element, they are both rated at 25 , but the 3 element has a lot better rejection

As you add elements, rejection IS better. The PDL 2 does not have a director. Adding a director element makes a marked improvement in F/B ratio and a drastic improvement in F/Side ratio.

PDL-2's are good for what they are, a small beam with horizontal and vertical. But they will not perform as well as a maco 3 element, and I've had several of both.
