the 959 has same output as older ones maybe a few watts more but not much. the 667 is a perfect match for that radio. why mess with it?????
1-2 watt carrier is plenty

I am just staring out with a CB radio. I have a few questions. I have a few old cb things from my uncle. A pace 143 CB and a junky antenna. He also gave me a bilinear amplifier. I would like to know what switches to have on om my amp(if it is legal) and if I should invest in new equipment and what kind. Thanks.

well if everything works then no .reason to buy new. only thing id buy new is coax and antenna .
NEVER skimp on these two things . the switches on amp should be labeled.
pre amp=this is supposed to bring up recieve in radio usually brings up noise instead
high/med/low=power output setting.i set this to high then adjust the radio rf powerall way down. if radio doesnt have this knob i just use lowest setting on amp.
ssb delay =this is a must for ssb use.
amps arent legal for cb use. however listen to

Hoskinmage;

You have a good combo with the 959 and the 667! No need to change anything! Set the 959 on low output at 1.5-3 watts and let the 667 do what it does so well. Don't touch or allow the inside of either unit to be touched other than an alignment. Small watt changes won't be seen or heard. Effectively to push your signal an S-unit higher you need to double your output. Remember, your career could end if caught by the FCC with the amp in line.

Make sure to ground everything, radio amp, doors hood, trunk lid,body to frame. Use a Low Pass filter behind the radio between the radio and amp, this one can't be stated enough. Yes, the FCC moved MOST of TV to UHF but some is still there from 7 up thru 12. Plus if your neighbor has an organ you'll talk to the electronics in it and possibly the toaster too with the amp on. If the limiter is out of the radio, with an amp, you could make enemies of your neighbors. Try not to run the amp around home, go elsewhere! Top of a hill ! By a lake !

Another thought too, take the amp out and hide it when parked at work and hook the antenna directly the the TVI filter. The FCC turned CB complaint investigations over to local law enforcement agencys. Hint, Hint! If your going to use this combo for a base, go up up and away with the antenna and try to go without the amp. If you're going mobile, what antenna are you going to use??

The Sirio PL 5000 is a awesome antenna. It would make that 959 really shine. I'm see more than double the range of my Wilson 5000 they cost about the same. In one case while parked I swapped out the Wilson and the Sirio and did about 20 miles more with the Sirio.

The Sirio 145 PL mag mount. It's wider and stronger than the Wilson mags. They just have short coax on them 12 ft. I changed 1 to mini 8X. The other works the way it is. But the antennas blow the Wilson away. I'm really pleased. I tuned them from 26.950Mhz(1.7 swr) to 28.740 1.8 swr) 27.555 swr 1.0. For a Mobile it's the best that I've ever run. Being able to run both 10 and 11 meters without tuning anything else.
