Thank you in advance.

The only way I know to get frequencies below one or above 23 on this radio is swapping crystals. One crystal for each channel for TX and RX. The S23 transmitter has 23 crystals, one for each channel, it doesn't have mixers. The crystals are cut to 27 meg. You would need a VFO with a 27 meg output and just turning it on will throw a carrier on the receiver. There could be a way to correct that but I've known several that tried many years ago. I don't think Siltronix made a 27 meg output VFO so one would have to be modified. If there's just a channel or two below one or above 23 that you want to use you could swap some crystals. The receiver can be tuned a few channels below one and above 23 but more then that it would need crystals too.
The Golden Eagle and Mark II is set up the same way. The Mark III is a different story, it has mixer crystals and can be converted with crystals or a VFO on the transmitter. Anyway that's been my experience and good luck with your Brownings, I used them since the S-23 R-27 first came out until a few years ago. I've still got a Mark III but the transmitter was damaged and is down. Get that thing pinging. :-)
