Could someone please tell me how many watts can I run in my little kia reo? I dont want to hurt the circuit boards and I have now, vorage 9000,uniden 959 and a unidentified 76xl that I have from a long time ago. Now I know that a bigger box like I had and sold was a Texas stat 667 but I know that in this car I wont even come close to that so I'm thinking about a stryker and or a hi power radio like some of them. I'm not sure of which radio I should get. Now getting back to the car it a 2013 kia reio kinda small ut I dont want to hurt her car.( MoMA's counting on me to not treat her car all to piece. So now you see what I'm up agenestbut I really want a good stout radio where when I key up I want people to hear me to. So if you Can help me I would appreciate it verry much if Anyone could help me,,,,PLEASE!!!! you are the best group of boys I honestly know so please I've seen strikers,connex and others so if you was to give me a clue and advice I would be so thankful to you for the help.

Depending on your antenna location is a big factor in rf trouble. It is my experience that a roof mount antenna will give you virtually no trouble with a high power radio of even a small amp. The roof will reflect the power better in all direction's also. Give you better signal . Anytime you install an antenna on a bumper will make it directional. Not to mention the rf is going into your body that can be dangerous for you and your family. If you did have any trouble you could always install a filter in line. I myself like the RCI 2970N2 The striker with ssb and high power is very good also. Make sure your radio has a frame ground also your amp if you install one. Post this on ask the tech and ask TECH 833 he is one of the best to ask along with the other tech's here on this site. .This site has the best choices and the best tech's not to mention a lot of us ham operators'. |

Roof mount antenna is certainly best. However, you need to keep that current away from the electronics in the dashboard. This is one of those rare cases where a 102" whip on the rear bumper might be better for the car.
Best bet- Don't run an amp.

roof is always best...but ive had good luck with mounting on trunk also..if looks are a concern coppers has a black fiberglass antenna called a skipshooter.. mounted on the trunk this would be a talker...for radios and power i use 100 watts as a place to stop with stock altenator..hope this helps

Thank all of you for your answers I didn't know with it being a 2013 if running a radio with more than 4 watts with all the computer parts it has. I know I had another newer car I run a vr9000 in it and it messed with the guages so I wanted to be safe with it cause I didn't want to take any chances. Thank you all for your answer now I can hook up little 959 without any problems. |

Also, ground the radio best you can to the frame . If it is a unitized body ground the radio to the floor. Keep your ground cables as short as possible. This will help with any stray rf floating around your cars electronics. |
