HI GUYS;
I have a new radio to my collection ,an ICOM 718, got it with $50 dollars off,not tobad.
It will run 150 watts, they use their marine radios transistors in it,so it runs still cool,some say 200 watts but to me pushing it.

I will hook it up in next few weeks. I forgot I put the MARS mod in it<they>.

RE Dr

Per radio theory, it will take a boost of 6db in order to achieve one single S Unit gain if talking to say, another state. If your radio has a transmission power of say 100 watts then you will need to transmit at 400 watts. Remember 3 db is a double of power. So the first 3db of the 6 needed will require 200 watts to get half the desired gain, and you will need to increase your power to 400 watts to get the second half signal needle swing. If you want an extra Decibel buy at least a 500 watt amp.
