I have a 21 year old GoodMAN AC Unit Model No: CK42-1C. Recently learned that my capacitor is bad. The currently installed capacitor is an AMRAD Turbo 200X. Is this too much? Do I have to replace this capacitor with the same AMRAD 200X or can I just buy what appears to be a Goodman OEM replacement from Amazon for about $13?

21 Years????? Do yourself a big favor and take the vintage radio //21 years old is vintage// to a tech and have them replace every electrolytic cap with a "GOOD" quality replacement cap.

You can always go bigger on electrolitic cap on the specs but, remember you can never go smaller. I am not talking about the physical size of the capacitor voltage can be more and uf can be more. It will not hurt it. Just make sure the polarity is right. Positive to positive negative to negative .

That's not necessarily true @Charliebrown... Sometimes capacitors are used in situations where a specific RC time constant is needed. Using audio as an example, a larger value Cap means more low frequency gets through. Any audio filtering will be screwed up doing that. There are also noise cancelling circuits and other things requiring specific RC time constants, so no, don't just toss in bigger value caps. Even more importantly, the higher you go in uF value, the more foil is wrapped up inside it, which means the leads are effectively longer (inside) significantly adding inductance thus lowering the useful decoupling frequency in situations where it serves that purpose (like right next to oscillators or IC chips).

Furthermore, sometimes circuits will use a negative voltage which often leads to the + side of the capacitor at ground potential. So, be sure to put them in the way they came out, because it's not always good enough to find which side is the ground foil and just stuffing it in that way.

And lastly, don't buy any capacitor off amazon, ever. It is a near certainty that it will have an unacceptable ESR right out of your mailbox, even after you give it a stabilizing charge to repair the oxides.
