I have installed my radio in my side by side and drilled holes in the plastic bed for a fiberglass antenna. I ran the ground from the antenna mount to the frame. I am having difficulty with the SWR. No matter how short the ground to the frame the SWR will not come down below a 2.3. Does anyone have any idea what else can be done . I trimed the coax did not help. I ran a longer piece of coax did not help and no matter how I adjust the antenna (has an adjustable top section) It won't get any lower than a 2.3 To get it to a 2.3 I had to use a piece of house wire 12 gauge for a ground wire to get it that low. I even tried to use the center section of rg 58 for a ground and that made it worse. ANYONE HAVE ANY EXPERIENCE WITH THIS TYPE OF MOUNT ON A SIDE BY SIDE

I made a bumper for the Pioneer 1000 today got it painted and mounted then I made an antenna bracket to go on the bumper. With the bumper mounted to the frame and the antenna bracket to the bumper I checked the SWR. It lowered it from 2.3 to 1.5 on all channels. 1 through 40 I can live with that, but I like the 1.1 better. Later when I get more time I will try to see if it can be gotten lower. So far, I don't think anyone reads the post on the COPPER FORUM anymore. No one responds. It sure isn't what it used to be.

Ok Dale, I look forward to skip conditions and we will keep on trying to make contact. I ran a separate ground from the antenna bracket to the frame.I also ran a ground from the radio to the frame before I put the bumper on.

Skip conditions have been good but I still haven't heard much of anything from your state. Fm is good but I haven't heard much of anyone on FM. Mech, Not many people get on here anymore. I don't know where everyone is or why they don't get on here.

Yeah it was jumping back years ago! I guess we will just have to wait and see what the future holds. I hope all is well with you and your family Charliebrown.

Thank You Mech for the good hope and I pray all is well with you and your family and everyone here on this forum. We went a long time without skip and I sure hope it stays a long time. Most of us old timers here in my area has died off and only about 4 of us left now. Use to be more than 50 here on the air day and night. Now computers and cell phones have taken over. But what will people do when the internet is down, and the towers don't work?? They will wish they had radios to communicate with then. LOL. Anyway, Thank you and others for getting back to me and May God Bless You and Your Family.
