Ok,when using a whip for a base antenna I understand the thing about runnin 6 gauge wire from a copper grounding rod to the connector holding the antenna to the mast.The thing I need to know is,how exactly do I attach the wire to the antenna mount??I've been talking on a mobil now for some time,I'm just wondering how you would attach the ground wire to the antenna mount.
PS:Another question,does a magnetic antenna need a ground?I know that sounds like a cheesy question but if base of the antenna is made of plastic how can it ground unless it's through the coax?Thanks for your replys. |

Ground is made through the antenna mount (bracket). With a magnet, it is a capacitive ground or *false* ground sensed through the magnetism to metal.
Using a mobile antenna requires a *counterpoise*. Mobile antennas need metal around them to use as a *launch pad*. Using a mobile antenna as a base antenna without this can sometimes be a problem as there is no metal to react to. Base antennas do not require this. |
