I've been told that when using any amp. over 300 watts(mobile) that you need to have a special kind of coax(thicker). Is this true or is somebody just yankin' my chain? Also I have a cobra radio that's tweaked and peaked(I think the tech did an excellent job on it) and I want to run an amp.(Texas Star350) I don't want to have to have it turned back down. Do I need to? To run a kicker?

Thanks for the info JYD. I'm debating between the Texas Star DX350 HDV, or the KLV MOD 351P. I've been told that the Texas Star is the way to go. As for coax, I'm running RG58Au co-phase coax. Can I get by with using this stuff, or do I need to get some different coax?

Any light that can be shed on this subject is greatly appreciated. Thanks,
Dawg

Dawg, The Texas Star will be a good addition to your set but I would get rid of the 58au and go with RG8X(mini8). It may be alright with the 58 but I have always had better luck with the mini 8. It is'nt much more expensive and has a better history(more power handling ability and more durable). A co-phase harness out of mini 8 should cost less than $20.

If you choose to buy either a Mod 351 or a DX350, you MUST have your radio set to 1.5-2w carrier. Any more than that and it will cause excessive heating in the amp, also sometimes distortion and muffling.
It boils down to what you want in power and what it costs. For around $100, you'll get a nice 200w amp (Mod 351). For $200 you get a 325w amp (DX350). For around the same $200 you could get the XForce 200hd, will do 400+, and you won't have to turn down your radio.
The rg58 coax is fine for the two amps you mentioned. For the XForce you will need "mini 8" or RG8x.
