ok... where to start.. I unhooked my coax from the radio and ran a continuity check between the center and the shield. With my ohm meter set at 20k I came up with 9.87 ohms. Then i unhooked from my antenna and tested the same thing but got nothing.. other than that the coax checked out fine(center had continuity with .02 ohms and shield had continuity with .05 ohms). Then i screwed the coax back in to the antenna but i only plugged it in to the radio without the shield touching and my swr was about 1.2, but with the shield screwed to the radio it was over 3..... I grounded the pole my antenna is on to the ground wire running down my roof. But that didnt bring my swr down. What do you think could be wrong????? Thank you
Buck

your not suposed to check coax with a antenna in line cause you will get a reading, you have to unhook it to check it correctly.and your antenna can not be close to any objects that are metal.try changing jumper lengths, also if you are going by your meter on your radio it wont be correct.do you have good coax or is it radio shac stuff?

buck sounds like your ant is way off try this check it at ch 1 then 20 then 40 it it is flat 3:1 try this
To test coax get (2) 100 ohm 1/2 watt resistors and a so-239 connector from radio shack hook them in parallel and and solder them across that 239 connector now disconect your antenna and put the connector on the pl-259 in place of your ant make VERY SHORT TRANSMISSIONS USING ONLY STOCK POWER HOLD IT DOWN TO JUST A FEW WATTS JUST LONG ENOUGH TO CAL METER AND READ SWR if your readings are now about 1.3:1 or less your coax is fine no mater who made it. if this is so then your antenna is not tuned right If the swr is still 3:1 your coax is FUBAR ed. radio-doctor@juno.com
