I recently had a break-in at my home, and had most my
radio room cleaned out. Luckily for me the cops caught the guy and recovered all my stuff. Just to let you know, it's a good idea to photograph, etch the last four numbers of your social security number on ALL of your equipment, and save your receipts. The
red tape of reclaiming property is unbelievable! Again I've gotten back some of my stuff, but my 142GTL, 90LTD, FT101E, DX1600, and Mod-V are still sitting
in a police property room. It can happen to you as easily as it happened to me. I went out and bought a Dremel and etched EVERYTHING in my house-nailed down or not. It's sad things come to this, but it's well worth it! |

Dawg/Monster- It really does not concern the local PD what type of transmitting equipment you own, nor can they hold it hostage for some sort of "proof of license" to operate said transmitting device. |

707 is corect the only thing that they have a right to know is it yours what it does is a matter for the FCC. The law is clear ONLY if you are creating a nusense and there in a ordenance can they hold you in anyway and that is geared toward stoping you from transmitting. to seese your radios ill bet would require something from a judge |

why are they holding your amp hostage in the first place if they think its a stereo amp? someone broke into my suv and stole everything but the subwoofer box,man thats a bad feeling...

Hey Gang:
Thanx for the posts, FYI; I've claimed all of my property back from the police. The detective in charge figured it had to belong to me as there was no other communication equipment in their property room. So he gave me "the benefit of the doubt". I pressed charges and showed up in court. The pr*ck got 5years and was taken to Sing Sing (prison upstate NY)for his actions. I was lucky EXTREMELY LUCKY! Heed my words, protect yourselves against theft, by etching you property, writing down the serial numbers, taking pictures, anything to justify that you own it. Also if you buy a lot of used stuff (like me) Insist that the seller make out a receipt with his name and address etc (in the event it turns out the bargain you just got is HOT). |

I am glad to see that you got your stuff back, hopefully unharmed. That is a very good idea about writing down your serial #'s and of the like. I believe I will yake your advise an do so...Eddie |

glad things worked out. Took long enough!!! Sure is glad to see you press charges against the thieves. I had someone try and break in our house a few weeks ago while we were home ( 4 a.m). Seemed it took the police too long to get here (adrenaline!) but when they showed, they showed in force with Dogs and caught'em! My own dogs were ready to kill which kept him outside. I had to load and ready my weapon the other night (first time ever) due to intense scenarios but nothing panned out fortunately. The sad part, I have a deputy sherrif that lives across the street and a fairly nice neighborhood. Wacko's aren't nesessarliy smart. I HATE thieves with a passion. I work too hard for what I have. I love to hear a success story! |

Property rooms are a wonderful thing sometimes. I had my car and credit cards stolen(right outta my driveway...never leave your keys in the car, not even for an hour) a few years back. It stayed gone for 3 days. About 6 months later, after the thief had been prosecuted, I got a call from the local PD to "come get my stuff". I figured it was just the CDs and tapes I had in there, but left with a new Kenwood car stereo with CD(purchased with my credit card and covered by Discover), all of my CDs, most of the tapes, and the bonus..........the 9mm semi-auto which was found in the trunk....I didn't remember ever having owned that particular weapon, but hey...the cop handed it to me. I did NOT get my RatShack HTX202 or cellphone back though.. |
