ok..stupid question here.

what is the sturdiest way to mount a tripod up on the roof? Does it go throught the plywood with reinforcement boards under the roof, or does it get bolted into the rafters somehow?

I'm clueless (about that subject anyways)

thanks

not a stupid question. According to a friend who is a roofer 16-24 inches is the spred between beams in your roof bolting into the beams is the way to go.... and dont forget to seal the legs REAL good

When I had mine up I ran a 4X6 between 2 rafters and used 1/2 inchX6inch long bolts with flat washers, lockwashers and self locking nuts. If you can,use 3 inch deck screws, instead of nails, to anchor the 4X6 between the rafters. I found this to be sturdier than hoping to hit the middle of the rafter to get a good bite. It's a bit more work but worth it to maybe save your antenna. The best part of doing it this way is you can put the tripod where you want it and drill the holes first and you can tell exactly where to mount the 4X6to hit the center of it.
