Well as some of you know I am doing some dabbling in tubes and such. Nothing fancy, just wanting to learn. But anyhow. i got theses things that are some sort of power tube like thing. Heres what they look like and say on them: their made of brass and have a glass like bubble in the center of the tube, 3.75 inch's tall and 1.25 in diam. and taper as they get taller. Hard to discribe Look kind if like a tempature sending unit for an older chevy small block...On the base/top?...they say...(ontop)..231...(middle line)..RCA 2C39A (RCA LOGO)THEN BOTTOM LINE SAYS 57-04 (THINK THIS REPRESENTS THE YR) IT CAME IN AN rca BOX AND WAS WRAPED IN A FOIL LIKE CLOTH POUCH SEALED SHUT....i AM WONDERING IF THERE IS A SITE...WHERE MAYBE YOU CAN PUNCH IN A TUBES # AND IT MIGHT TELL YOU WHAT IT IS OR MAY HAVE BEEN USED FOR?....I HAVE BEEN AQUIRING A FEW TUBES HERE AND THERE...well think I'll go look about a bit.....OHIOBIKER....

You can find the 2C39 in the older issues of the ARRL Handbook such as early 70's. According to the handbook the tube was rated for a max of 500 mhz. The plate dissipation is 100 watts, plate voltage is 1000V, plate current 60ma,cathode volts(filament)6.3volts at 1.1 amps. These are maximum ratings. It is sutable for class C plate-modulated phone . Power output for one tube is shown at 40 watts. The base of this tube is not shown. It is listed as a triode transmitting tube.
