When we get out of this present solar cycle will the cb band noise level drop down. I have noticed on some days the noise is only at s5 to s7 and others it hangs around s9 until about 8 pm or 9pm. Will it get back to the way it was in the early 70's. Also what effect is the use of high power amps like on channel 6 ,causing on the band. |

The noise in a function of many different variables including solar conditions, thunderstorm/lightning activity, static electricity buildup/discharge, other numerous things. For example, on some days when the solar activity is extremely wild, the band will go dead. We are in the middle of a big solar storm right now, for example. Some bands will not be affected adversely, while others will be wiped out.
As for "The Superbowl"... Yes, there is something to that. On days when the band is wide open, you will experience an increase in adjacent channel and splatter noise from those guys. I have heard spurious emmissions from channel 6 as far away as ch 19 in an area where there is absolutely NO local ch6, nor any significant ch6 activity for over 100 miles around. |
