I found a used Magnum 357 DX the other day for $219. It seems to be in good shape and is still in the box. However....i dont know jack about these radios. Just wondering if that is a fair price and more importantly if they are a good radio. Any input would be greatly appreciated
Thanks,
Buck

I have one that has been tuned and NPC'ed by Old #7 and I love the damn thing. Sweet souding radio on SSB and also holds its own on AM with the mic gain cranked up as well. I have mine flush mounted into the ashtray cavity with the amp under the drivers seat.

Ah it is not a very good bargin The 357 has a pll board of a later model of the 347 which causes in some radios to not be able to talk for an extended time with out the board going out. If i were you i would try to get your money back the radio is really not worth it. If i were you i would go with a galaxy 99 whitch is a excelent radio which will last you longer then the 357.

Tax,

I don't know who you are trying to impersonate, or what it is that you are trying to prove, but you may as well take your comments elsewhere.

Buck,

That's a very good price for a 357. The 357 is basically a 257 with a 100 watt amplifier. I own the 257, did a review on it, and like the radio alot. Modulation is excellent, as is power, receive sensitivity, and SSB stability. They lack the roger beep and echo and all that stuff if you happen to want those features. If the radio is in good shape, hasn't been hacked to death, then go for it.

i dont know where tax got his info but unless there is some major changes between the 485 and 357 except for the power amp he is dead wrong my 485 ( the low power ver. ) has the hotest reciver ive ever had on 10 meters it is much more resistant to overload than my 2950 was and with a channel guard filter works fine on am/fm almost as good as my alinco fm.
On SSB this radio sounds as good as my dx-70 infact i have had many comment they could not beleve it was a 100 dollar radio. Steve i agree totaly with you copper made a good move this is a solid radio with a lot of bang for the buck.
