I have a Galaxy 400 linear that is like new. There is a guy who wants to trade me a HR 2510 for it. Nothing is wrong with it, however it is not cosmeticaly 100% It has 4 small holes in the top cover I suppose for a bracket mount of some sort. Has the origional mic and cord. No major scrathes on the face of it though. It is not chipswitched. Would this be a good deal? I have never owned an HR 2510, But I hear nothing but good about them...Eddie

Biged,
If you can live without the amp, go for it!
I will guarrentee you will love the 2510.Lots of mods can be done to it, and they are an excellent sideband rig. Put a good power mic on it, like a D-104 and it will talk!

Well, I went ahead and did it. I just brought the 2510 home and it seems like a real solid radio. Heavy, weighs twice as much as my Galaxy's. I think I made a good trade, seeing as though the 2510's are becoming harder to find. The radio is in better shape than I expected. The only thing that is wrong with it is the four holes in the top of the cover and the one knob looks like it has been burnt by a cigarette. Other than that, it is perfect. If anybody has an extra knob laying around that they are willing to get rid of, please email me at hunter99@zoominternet.net I will pay you for it plus whatever it costs to ship it. I am not too worried about the top cover, I cant see it as I have it mounted under a shelf at my desk. But I will let everybody know how I like the new beast...Eddie

...i know where 2 are in north ALABAMA...one is in a pawn shop with no plug for the speaker to work in the rear connector they want $250.00 for it or it will stay there ( I done tried to buy it 2 times ).... the other one is at a man house and the top cover is gone but the man sez it works "perfectly " and wants $ 225 for it, but never talks on it ...but I am suspicious of it more than the pawn shop model.... the 2510 radios are great but getting to be hard to find.....after all they came out around 1980 or so ( some one correct me for wrong year ).... but for their day they were top of the line and still are in their own special way... congrats on getting it and may you forever be satisfied with its performance... Eddie,
Happy to see you made the trade! I think you will like the 2510 once you get use to it. Maybe catch ya on air waves some day!

Happy DXing!

Biged,

I have two old covers that will fit the 2510. They are scratched all to hell, but they have no holes. :)

If you want them, let me know and I will send them to you.

It would be nice if people took better care of their equipment. Drilling holes in the covers or front panel is the worst - I hate that!

101, I agree.
The 2510 that Eddie has, the previous owner must have had a small amp mounted to the top of it, is what I'm guessing. That makes me mad when people do that. Ruins a perfectly good radio.Enjoy that radio Eddie!

I think it was a Quick mount for under a dash. The holes are a quarter inch in diameter. Dx431, I totally agree with you, if you drill holes or make any chasis mods, It just totaly ruins it. Well, one thing I did check before I made the deal was if the screws for the covers were worn out. If they are stripped, you know somebody has had thier biscuit grabbers in there tinkering with it. But these scews were in good shape. I did look inside of it just to see is there was anything obviuous in there and there wasn't. I think all in all, it is a solid radio...Eddie
