I new there were good people left on the radio,great forum! Now I just need a good radio to talk to ya's. I'm a driver who whants to get away from 19 four the most part.I'm trying to decide wich radio rci.2950 or galaxy 88 any sugestions? maybe a diferent unit? I plan on runnig some power too. the extras like sounding like a robot does nothing for me. but Ihave all the plans of getting a base ant up for when I'm home.Any help is greatly appreciated. |

stay away from the galaxy for SSB use as i found they drift the 2950 does great and its a easy radio for a starter and someone who has been in radio for awhile. i have 3 RCI's 
Go with the Ranger in my opinion. |

The 2950DX would be a good choice. For a less expensive option look at the SuperStar 3900 also. Good radio for the price.

In order to give you a sound recommendation, some details are needed.
What features do you wish to have (echo, talkback, extra channels, fequency counter, SSB, etc). |

Both radios are great rigs. If you plan on doing any sideband yakking, then I would go for the 2950. And if you are going to do just am only, I would go for the 88. The 88 will most likely hold up better with the beating that those trucks would put it through. However, if you choose the 2950 over the 88, do yourself a favour and get the newer DX model, I understand they are built on a better chassis and use a new SMT system that makes it a little beafier and more stable. The 88 will have more bells and whistles on it as far as toys, but the 2950 is way more stable in the frequencie department. As being an owner of both, I would choose the 88 over the 2950 only because of the s meter. The 2950 does not have a very good meter on it. The 88 would be much easier to see driving down the road. Might I make another suggestion, If you are not planning on doing any sidebanding, I would really consider a Galaxy 66. I have had 2 of them and they are great radios. It has all the same features as the 88 but no sideband. Plus it has a big s-meter on it, easier to read than the 88. On top of that, it is about $100 less than the 88...Happy hunting...Eddie |

Well 10ring, Your probably going to get a lot of different oppinions on the two. I don't want to get the forum in a uproar on the DX88 lovers out there. I have both radios and like them very much. Right now I'm running a old style RCI 2950 with a Texas star DX400hdv amp and a Wilson 1000 in my pickup truck. Hell, I talk all over with that rig. My only hang up on my 88 is it seemed to drift all over on me when I was on sideband. Don't get me wrong it was a talkin MO FO. But that is my oppinion. I don't know what kind of talkin you plan on doing. But for the price you can pick up a older style 148GTL for about 100.00 bucks or so. And with the proper golden screw driver in it and easy modifications done. you got your self a screamer.. Also, on your base set up. I just stood up a I-max 2000 with ground plane kit, wich I got from Copper. And I'm very happy with it. Listen to what some of the fine people here on the forum have to say on this matter...Whatever you do. Good Luck!!!! 73's |

you are going to get alot of different opinions here, but if you dont want all the bells and whistles, the RCI2950 is a good choice.But look around on Coppers site and check out all there radios. Copper has a good selection of radios, good prices and excellent customer service.

thank you to every one for all the great replys.I think that the 2950dx might be a winner.extra toys dont do much for me(i'm a meat and potatoe kind of man)Just want good clean loud audio and a reliable unit for ssb work. |

Maybe look at the 2950 DX, the Magnum 257, or the Titan II radios that are running on Ebay. The Titan is a single final version of the 257. All of these are solid SSB rigs, the two later are good AM rigs as well. |

I just noticed that the 2950 has a set of controls in the mic. this may not serv me well.does any one know if I can change that mic out and put some thing else on it like a D-104? or a noise canceling mic for when i'm on the go. |

You can put any mic of your preferance on that radio. Besides, it will sound better. |
