I have a chance to pick up one of these for 90 dollars...Is this a good antenna??? I am currently running a Maco 5/8th's at about 50 foot...Any ideas how the 2 stack up side by side, I realize one is directional, and the other is not..I guess What would like to know is, any ideas on increased range under the same operating conditions...I use the radio mainly to talk to my wife in our car, so an extra mile or two would be great. Thanks for any help on this subject...Tom Shaw

Yes its a great antenna, but you realize you must turn it since your speaking to your wife in the car. If its all there and complete then I would take it. Not a bad price.

Not as much gain as a Moon Raker but then again it does not require nearly as much room to turn either. A good compromise if you want a reasonable beam at a reasonable price.

You will need a rotator unit to turn the antenna. Might I suggest a Bell Type at least 6 wire (8 wire preferred) rotator. However do not go overboard. You will be turning an antenna that is only 4 feet long.

Dear Sonoma

So the coppers is out?

Try this

Antenna Specialists • An Allen Telecom Company
31225 Bainbridge Road • Cleveland, Ohio 44139-2281
Phone: 440-349-8400 • Fax: 1-800-321-9978 or 440-349-8404

AS makes the PDLII antenna. Perhaps they can help you. They still list the antenna on their web site so they might be willing to part with a hub or two. The price I do not know, you will have to ask them.

Suggestion:
Get an extra one or two. Personal experience, just believe me.

you can use the m101 hub from the moonraker4 its a better hub anyway(for the non driven element).

or both if you make it a true quad and do away with the orbital gama match. use 1005/freq for driven and use stock length or 1030/freq for the reflector.
fashtion it in a box pattern feed it at one of the bottom corners and you have both horizontal and vertical polarization using ONE feed line.match with 1/4 wavelength of 75 ohm coax(electrical length)then your 50 ohm coax going to the rig and your set,no switch boxes needed and its more efficient than the gamma. 1.1-1.2:1 swr should not be hard to get.
