Do you run an amp with your VR9000? If so, have you experimented with how much dead key you can put into it? Saturday night I had 3 watts goin in on AM and talked to a trucker on CH. 19 at 80+ miles. Is 3 watts pushing it?

It depends entirely on the amp that you are running.Presently I am running a Palomar 400 High Drive which can take up to seven watts dead key,but it sounds better with four to five watts dead key.On a standard class AB1 amp in the 25 watt to 400 watt range I certainly wouldn't go above 3 watts dead key.

I have the KLV40. So, the risk is frying the amp? For some reason I was under the impression it is bad for the radio, thats a newbie for ya! I think may have to bump up!!

To me it sounds like you want to melt down the KLV 40 amp so you'll have some sort of excuse to buy a larger one.I'm absolutely certain that as fast as you can burn them up the retailers will sell you larger & larger models.George Bush is counting on you to keep the economy rolling.Have a good day .73's

When I said bump up I meant in amps.I don't need an excuse, I'll sideline the KLV40 or give it to a buddy. I want more distance without having to wait for the most ideal skip conditions or having to drive 80 minutes to the 5500 foot peak.
