I have a 1989 and a 1993 model, both made in the Philappines that I want to refurbish to look like new. They are both great radios but don't look so well now days.
Any suggestions on where to get replacement skins? Maybe someone has some burned out radios that still look good? I still have the original box in the attic with the parts list but I never checked to see if I could order them. |

I have been looking for a faceplate for my Cobra 29 classic for awhile too. I emailed Cobra electronics and asked them if they had any laying around or if they even made them any more and the answer was no. You can get one that has the soundtracker but not the good ones. I have been watching ebay for a few weeks for a parts radio and finally stumbled across one. It is a Philipenes radio that is in perfect shape but does not work. It acually looks new from the pics. It comes with the mic, power cord, bracket, and bracket knobs. I picked it up for $21.00 Not bad huh? The one I am refubishing is not a Philipene radio so I might end up fixing the one from ebay and keep looking for another to salvage parts. I also called my local tech to see if he had any and he did. They are used but in fairly good shape.(faceplate) I could get one for $10.00 from him. But as far as getting one new or like new, good luck. I am in the same boat. And as far as covers go, I am going to put on some chrome covers. They sell for $15.00 on ebay every day. If you dont want chrome, you may want to try putting a coat of paint on them. Just make sure you use a good quality paint. I would use something like matte black. If you can find a place that sells faceplates new or close to it, would you let me know? Thanks...Eddie |

I'll keep you in mind if I find any faceplates. I scanned the old faceplate and was working on cleaning it up in Photoshop. I thought I could print it on those clear labels that come in 8.5 x 11 sheets and somehow make a new looking faceplate. Just not sure how it will look yet. Maybe clean off the original lettering and put the label over the faceplate. A while back I had my nephew fabricate a set of covers out of stainless steel but they turned out to be warped and didn't fit right. Thought I would make a DeLorean GTL :-) |

Have you called Copper Electronics and asked for the address of Cobra. Or perhaps a web search for their web site. A call to the part dept might bring results. AND since you are replacing, do not forget to see of those knobs are in good shape. |
