I got my old 142 back that i sold a while ago. Still works like a champ too! Anybody on here run one and how do you like them? Im thinking about wiring up a turner mike to mine and seeing how that works.

That resistor change will only make the radios mike curcuit more sensitive. I dont really think its really worth the bother. I did that mod to mine and i didt really like it that well. But that radio will take a NPC/RC mod very, very, very, well!!! I did it to mine and my 142 screams!!!! One of the loudest 142s out there in my area. I mainly like the 142s becase they have an excellent receiver front end....

I used to own one and did the R98 and R98 to 4.7k mod. The mod seemed to be good with a stock or non power mic....With power mic it was a little to much SPLATTER CITY. I wish I still owned it...
My good friend across town owns one and with a lollipop and I cant believe how LOUD that sucker is on AM and SSB. Definetly a oldie but goodie....Good score.......73's

I've seen the mod listed using 2.2k resistors. Was considering doing it to my TRC-490. Still gotta get a base antenna though. (Gonna save up for the I-10k):) already got a echomax 2000 for it or maybe I'll wire up my silver eagle with the SSB head (DAL-50) to it...

Ive nopticed the radios with the 858 PLL dont swing as well as the 8719 PLL radios. My 142 will talk circles around my 139XLR any day!
