For ssb, the Lincoln, hands down. For am, the Galaxy's better, but you can modify the Lincoln for am. But if you're wanting something that blasts on am like the truckers like, the Galaxy hands down.

JYD,
I guess it depends on what you are looking for in a radio. If you are wanting to talk SSB, the Lincoln is the better. If you plan on talking on AM only and you like bells and whistles, go for the 99. However the Lincoln or the 2510 is nothing to shake a stick at on AM. The AM on my 2510 is really clear and easy to understand. The big difference I have noticed between the 2 radios is the long distance TX. Its unbeleivable how clear the 2510 is on the RX end even when you have a low s-unit. In other words, if you are talking to me on a 2510 and I am hearing you on another radio, no matter what kind it is, there is no unwanted noise or garbling from other people on the same channel. The Galaxy's have a tendency of being a little noisy during TX. I have had 4 Galaxy's, a 55, 2 66's, and a 99. And I now have the 2510. They are all good radios. Email me at hunter99@zoominternet.net

I vastly prefer the Lincoln. People will tell you the Lincoln can't talk AM very well, but I cranked up the AMC in mine and put an Astatic 575m6 mic on it, and it sounds GREAT! On SSB, the Lincoln will blow the 99 away. You can get Lincolns new for about 250 bucks from European dealers! (I'm still puzzled as to why Copper doesn't jump on this radio's new found popularity)

...generally speaking... s s b operators do NOT need the TOYS for attention that AM operators do by and large...how many folks you hears on SSB with echo or a robot voice ? they prefer to communicate rather than aggravate...just joking...having fun while we still can with a crashing stock market...BIG FOOT

jyd,
no experience with the 99 but the Lincoln can smoke on AM with a Astatic D104 handheld! Highlander speaks of another Astaic product and I believe him. Great stable SSB but maybe harder to actually find one than the 99 for sure.

Highlander,
got a website? I've heard the other side of the pond can get these cheap to the front door but have had no luck finding it myself. I'm interested to say the least. E-mail me off list if you so desire, or post here.

BIG FOOT,
have faith my friend, it sucks for now but will rebound. My IRA's have fallen to what nearly I put into them but over the long term, I'm gonna make out. Jumpy investors make a jumpy stock market. I sure am bummed about the big companies lying to us though. If I were nearing the upper half of my life I would sure feel uneasy but all good will come in time. Even Wall St.

The 2600 is another radiop to consider too BTW. Alot like the 2510 and the Linkin but the 2600 has a tad more audio output on SSB and AM than a 2510 for some odd reason..

JYD why dont you like SSB? I use it all the time to talk long distance but i also like AM becasue you dont have the pick SSBers that are ready and willing to tell you you are Off frequency in a heartbeat. ^That the only gripe i have about SSB is if you are a knats hair off they complain.. :-(

OIC. Not me i like to have a decent coversation on SSB without the rude operators and noise and •••• on AM. But i use AM to talk to some of the locals that dont like to use SSB.
