ok i have readon a web site,think it was wilson web site that you can use any length of coax on a coil antenna,ok i got this barjan oil coil,and can only get the swr down to about 1.8 with 18ft of coax,now with 12ft of coax they go down to 1.4 and that with the antenna in the center of my tool box,now i put that same antenna on the side of the box the swr go down to 1.3 to 1.5 ,if i put a antenna on the other side of the box the swr go down the 1.1 on all channels ,and no i am not useing co-phased,only one 18ft of coax,why dose it go down more with the other antenna on the box but no coax .thanks |

your 'connected' antenna is coupling into your 'unconnected' antenna. its impedance to rf is changing due to this coupling, causing your swr to change. this can/will also make your antenna more directional than what it already is. |

as long as its a reasonable swr it shouldnt hard your anm or radio |
