Hey guys,
I just got the Skeleton, many thanks to Vernonott! Please respond Vernonott wheather you like Italian or steak or whatever is in your town so I can send your gift certificate for dinner. I won't take a "don't worry about it" for an answer.Anyway my "MORE POWER" mind is already at work, I know this is probably not doable but here goes. In four wheeling sometimes guys line up two transfer cases to get the gearing real low, what about two amps in line? VR9000-->KLV40-->SKELETON-->METER-->ANTENNA.
I know you said this Skeleton likes a 2 watt dead key Vernonott so I know this idea is a no no but is this concept doable with other amps? anyone ever try this?

Well Vernonott I just hooked it all up (6:30p.m. my time) my VR turned all the way down is dead keying at 4 watts and with the amp on it pegs the needle on the TM100 on the 100 scale hard! I'm anxious to head to the hill tonight and see where I go!

Yes. It's do-able IF the amp you were to drive could handle the power. There are some amps that require to be driven with another amplifier in order to get their true potential out of them. Some amps are equipped with so many transistors (pills) that they cannot be fully driven with just the RF from the radio. Some require 100 watts or more. Hence the need for a driver.
That is not the case here. You could cause big problems driving the Skeleton with the KL40.

Metro:Sorry I am just now getting back to you.I took Hammunitions advise .On several occasions he recommended that I change the channel if I didn't like what I was hearing.I was sick of hearing about another post on the forum so I changed the channel.Now,concerning your question about driving amps.About the smallest amp that can be driven is the Palomar 400 high drive.It can be driven with a Texas Star modulator which is about $99.00 plus shipping on that pamplet I sent to you inside the latest Copper catalog.P.S. You don't need to be driving that old Skeleton with over 2 watts,by using 4 watts you have lost all of your swing and the old gal is putting out wide open at dead key through modulation.If you ratchet jaw on her you will probably melt her down.I have been known to frequent Outback on occasion. |

LOL, Are you kidding Vernonott!?! I check this forum like 10 times a day on the weekends! Thanks for your concern though, I am running the amp with the RF knob all the way down. The meter is showing 3 watts, can't get it any lower. Is that gonna be a problem?
Your little trick worked! I have had to stop myself several times today from calling Copper and ordering that Palomar 250, I have a feeling it's in my future though.

Metro : you should be able to turn the Voyage down to 1 or 2 watts on low power .If you can't let me try to explain how the Skeleton should work.Let's say you dead key 3 watts into the Skeleton.At this dead key of 3 watts you should have a reading of maybe 30 watts on your meter.When you speak into the mike (AUDIO) (AUDIO)your meter should swing to 100 to 125 watts.Now if you dead key 3 watts into the Skeleton and it locks up your meter as you said at dead key without audioing then you are putting too many watts deadkey into it.It will talk like this but I really don't know how long it will last.73's |
