The GALAXY MELAKA has the capabilities of a factory roger beep that was not added at the factory. First with a soldering iron and some solder wick clean out the holes on the board where R179 , R180 , R181 , R182 , R183 , C134 ,C136 , C137 ,C138 , D83 and TR33 should have been placed at the factory . Then at the local electronics store pick up these parts . (resistors) 1 MEG , 2.2 K , 220 K , (two) 4.7 K . (capacitors) 01 uF , (two) .0047 uF , 2.2 uF . (diode) 1N914 . (transistor) 2SC945 .
After cleaning out the holes add the resistors first as in step 1.

1.) 1 MEG into R179
2.) 220 K into R181
3.) 2.2 K into R180
4.) 4.7 K into R182 and R183

Then add the capacitors as in step 2.

1.) .01 uF into C136
2.) .0047 uF into C137
3.) .0047 uF into C138
4.) .2.2 uF into C134

Then add the diode (1N914) into D83 . Add the transistor (2SC945) into TR33 . observe the proper way to install these last two components , they are marked on the board . Last solder a wire into the hole marked J9 and the other end to a switch . Then solder a wire on the other side of the switch to a +5 volt supply. And there you have it!

Is there a way to reduce the intensity of the beep,I mean it could be 1/2 watt on a 12 watt radio.I knew a man that used a yaesu with a very low intensity beep, you could just hear it,no annoyance whatsoever. Not like the ones we have now,you may as well wear beeping headphones, arrgh!!!So aggravating.

NASA was where I got hooked on roger beeps. I dont want any of the weired stuff that you hear now a days, just a single "beep".

Opinion are like ******** and I sure dont want to see yours!!! (Scrapiron63 or Barefoot)

By far the easiest way to get roger beep in your radio is to buy or use a power mike (Hand or Desk) with the roger beep in it. COPPER has them with many different options of the beep.

Its a lot less work and might even be cheaper just to plug a mic in, and that way if you happen to change radios in the future and get another one without roger beep you will already have it.

Just a thought!

Moonman, sorry bout that, your right, you asked a question, not for opinions. Like Catfish said, a mike with a roger beep would be one solution. They make them with switchable single or multiple beeps. I have one of the galaxy hand mikes that I got on trade, it has the echo and beeps, both with switches. I've got good reports on the modulation and echo, and some comments on the beeps. lol

Im another anti echo person but the beeper is -OK- if its a small "peep!" instead of an obnoxious and annoying BEEEEEPPPPPP!!!!!!!! Just another AM'ers toy to annoy with (the echo anyways)
