you know guys, i love this forum.the knowlege here is the best, and most accurate imformation i"ve seen in 32 years.i listen to everybody"s point of view, and they all have good points, like it or not."SO DON"T GET HOSTILE"on what i"am about to say!!people say on one part of the forum I HATE SKIP!! i like "rag chewing with my friends and skip gets in my way"!!later they say on another part of the forum :how can i drive my amp so it will get more watts.what for?? if you only rag chew with your niebors, why an amp at all?most old timers like myself, got bored with nieborhood talking(same people, conversation for hours every day)and wanted to expand there hobby.some went to ham an some went to am skip.20to30yrs of hey! george howdy!! could get real old and boreing to some people.every year cb dx clubs have national key downs up until labor day weekend(the last one)where you can meet the people you"ve talked to or the ones that have pluged your ears up all year. now about the channel 6 bunch they all are not " IDIOTS" i've met good people from all walks of life at key downs, mostly professional people,an i"ve formed long time friendships with some of the very same people i thought i would hate.some of you don't know it, but 90% of people on 6 know each other.it"s like illegal drag raceing in the 60"s and 70"s at that time it was more fun to run a quarter mile for prize money with friends than go a few miles down the road an pay a gate fee. same thing on ch-6 for the most part.the mobiles practice there skills(if you choose to call it that)on "6"while waiting for the opportunity to meet at national key downs to show there stuff, and win prize money from 400 to 3000.00 depending on class or national key down spot.but there are trouble makers on ch-6 just like every other channel.mostly "want-a-be"s" big boy"s who test your nerves.and base stations who drop 5000 to 15000 mauls just because they can.catch these same guys at a major key down,he"s on the side lines watching instead of competing.just like guys we all know ,some on our jobs, neiborhood, etc etc.i guess what i"am trying to say is,you get out of this hobby what you chose to put in it, just like life.(illegal or not)it does"t make me no less a man than you,or you than i.(certainly not and "IDIOT")Would"nt you rather have all those "IDIOTS"(as you call them) mostly on ch-6 than on your home channel.you would have to really have to use the telephone then would"nt you thank all of you for your time. sixkiller505 1999 winner of the 10 pill competition jacksonville nc

Nice diatribe.. But no, I would rather have them stop keying up at all with that kind of power. Local channel here is 19.. If one of the "big boys" here keys up on 6, we get splatter all the way up 19, most of the time anywhere from 5 to 9 s-units worth of it (if not more)... And then it's nothing more than them keying up saying their handle about 10 times and then saying that they are "reading the mail".. I myself am not impressed at all, instead am sitting there laughing at all the RF these clowns are exposing themselves to sitting on top of these "mobeeel" radios (as most of them call it)... Fine by me though, to each their own.

I'd rather them not be on 6 at all! My home channel is channel 4! Either way... I moved down to 26.825 and hear them just the same from all the bleedover... and you stated why have a linear if you don't talk skip. I live 20 miles from my nearest CB neighbor. But my real neighbor gets mad if I even run a stock Cobra 19... so I now have over 300 feet of coax so I can move my antenna on the other side of my property line. For the 3 DB loss I have from the 300 feet... I have to make up for it with a 400 watt amp... if I run barefoot, I can't even make it past my garage! Thats why some have linears and don't talk DX, because they might not be right next door to their CB neighbor and channel 6 makes it too rough to talk under a 100 watts for every 10 miles apart someone is around here in the Buckeye state... If I didn't have my amp... I couldn't get out till midnight every night! So channel 6 needs to shut up, if they want to run ILLEGALLY anyways... why not take the next step and ILLEGALLY transmit out of the regular 40 channel band so I don't need a freakin' linear in the first place!

I have a neighber that runs channel 6 every so often and is very respectful of me when he hears me key the mic on channel 22. We are only 75 yards apart from each other and of coarse we will bleed each other even without the power. They are not all bad people I will agree, I know of some of them personally. They all know my feelings on running their big amps and know that I think it is bull to use 5000 watts to talk 5 miles down the road. This just does not make any sense to me why this has to happen. Legal or not it should not happen and it really is unfair to the people who have been on radio many more years than most of these guy's are old. If you run this kind of power and someone is on channel 9 with a emergancy that person on channel 9 will never be able to hear the call for help! And yes REACT still does monitor channel 9 in some areas of the country, so do some local police for emergancies. No one can ever convince me that you need to use this much power to talk anywhere, I talk all the time to people in DX land and local without all this power (SO CAN YOU)!

Sintronic you hit the nail on the head!! If you want to use that type of insane blatant power do it on one of the free band channels. My biggest complaint is that when I have my radio in scan it stops all the time on channel 6 and that's all the way here in southern Colorado! But we're all just wasting our time here. I don't think that most of the people doing it can even read!!! Besides that, what is the point of a key down anyway? Isn't it mostly just a "look how much bigger mine is than yours" thing anyway? And on top of that, what the heck are those guys saying anyway? Is sounds like they are mostly just experimenting seeing how much worse than can make their southern drawls. (no offense towards nice southern folks implied)

...here is north alabama most of that kind of skip is on channel 6 & 26, but 26 is a less crowded channel and it is more of a " true TRY to shoot skip " channel than just making a racket like you hear on some of the other channels...one thing I miss is channel 16 ssb ( seems to have all left for lsb 36 - 40 mainly channel 38 )...i dont find too many folks on LSB 16 any more, but they will talk to you if they hear you......channel 6 is interesting to LISTEN to for a half hour or so, these folks have large transmitters and big imaginations....BIG FOOT

Most of the time trying to make any sense of what they are saying is as much of a challenge as it is to talk to them clowns!! LOL Half the time they are either yelling at the top of their voice into the mike or they talk in "ebonics" that ive never heard.. LOL
Ill stick to talking SSB at least there is some sense of order there and the people you talk to at least talk that you can understand them.. Sorry but i just dont have much use for CH 6....

Sixkiller505,

I had started a thread earlier but canceled it to think for awhile before posting. Now here is my opinion.

1st- if you were indeed bleeding all over my local channels I might be quite disgruntled with a different attitude toward your actions. Being that you don't, I have to be selfish in this opinion and only base it on my local assessment.

It sounds like you have made the most of radio and made some good friends in the process. To me, if you've got the big guns and use them for enjoyment/contest vice being the harrasser that you mentioned, I can see where it's an enjoyment. If that's the worst law you break in life, I believe we are lucky to have you around. All I can ask is with the group you contest with, please be considerate when you operate and avoid the ham bands (which obviously channel 6 is not). That really draws negative attention from people who have no problem sending the FCC a message.

Sometimes drawing attention to ourselves when running power, especially the amount you mention, could possibly negatively affect all CB'rs. I know, there is already enough trouble makers out there.

Sounds to me like it's a fun hobby that you enjoy and I for one won't slam you or call your bunch "idiots". No need for that. Have fun.

My .02 cents

I hate to say this, but here it goes.

I talked to a friend on 6 meters(50 mhz) 35 miles away and he was only running 25 watts on sideband. With 8 on FM, I can hear him talkingto a repeater 20 miles away. On 10 meters(28mhz) I was able to talk mobile to mobile on 25 watts SSB. On CB(27mhz), I can easily talk to someone 20miles away even under the worse conditions barefoot(12watts) on sideband. All of this from a mobile.

That said, if you cant talk across the yard with 100 watts, you are running your station at a terrible loss. From a base, you should be kicking butt on my mobile!!!.

As for Channel 6, well that channel is its own hobby to say the least. I use to terrorize people on the local side with my barefoot radio, and a wire. When I finally got 200 watts, I was a big gun then...lol Not the biggest gun, but everyone around knew who I was.

As far as having to go out of band, there are plenty of channels that are not used very much. All you need is a better receiver, or a directional antenna. Beams and yagis work wonders when illiminating noise. Even a loop antenna will help.

I think it is completely unfair to every other CBer to run that kind of power... look at this from my point of veiw... I can not enjoy any local communications when all my channels are full of channels 6 and 26! For all those people on 6 "copying the mail", how can they copy anything when it takes them 5-15 minutes to even get the point accross that they are "copying the mail" Don't you have to UNKEY the radio to listen... all they do it talk to theirselves all day just to look at their wattmeter and see how many people they can mess up! CB is supposed to be rugulated as 4 watts... if everyone ran 4 watts, you wouldn't have to worry about cranking up your box to get over all the other people out there with their boxes wide open to get over the other poeple, to get over the other people, to get over the other people... IT JUST KEEPS GOING! And what about those who just want to talk local and can't afford a big Galaxy with a 20 pill linear to talk 10 miles! It's unfair to all the law abiding citizens! I think they should keep the ham channels clear of that garbage too! I agree with Sintronic and the others... if they are going to break the FCC Part 95 Rules by Keying more than 4 watts, they should also go ahead a break another rule and go to 26.000-26.905 or 27.415-27.995! Hey, why not... Hams aren't supposed to talk there, CBers aren't supposed to talk there... so why don't they just take their 5000 watt linears and "BROADCAST" their garbage elsewhere... they are being unfair to all CBers... they only have 40 channels they are legally allowed to talk on and channel 6 and 26 bleed all 40 channels... how is this fair? Answer me that Sixkiller505... what if you were in the same position and you were trying to have a conversation with someone on channel 6 and I was on channel 5 with a 200 foot tower and transmiting 100000000 watts... how would you feel about my bleeding you over? HMMMM? Then you'd be on one of these forums complaining about me instead of saying you go... show us all how much our 5000 watt stations suck by keeping us from talking! Woo Hoo! Actually, it probably wouldn't keep anyone on channel 6 from shutting up anyways... they don't talk to anyone ... thats called transmitting and recieving... they broadcast... they are keying up to a public audience and advertising their own stupidity for spending all their income of amplifers to just copy the mail all day! Just my 2 cents!

"That said, if you cant talk across the yard with 100 watts, you are running your station at a terrible loss."

- hmmm, well, what do you do when you have an I-max 2000, 50 foot of coax... a perfect match, and everywhere you key up on a stock radio causes the neighbors to call the police? I live in the middle of the woods, I have no help to climb any trees to put my antenna up in one... the only clearing is 300 feet from my house! So I have to have coax to reach.. I bought heavy RG-8... even with that there is a .09 - 1.2 DB loss per 100 foot... that 3DB, thats a big difference when you live 20 miles from everyone and there are trees all around you and a big hill in between the people you are talking to also! I used to throw everyone a 5-9... now with my 3DB loss or more, I only throw them 2-6... it's a little hard to hear me if channel 6 is bleeding the people I'm talking to up to 30DBs or more don't you think? But, my mobile does get out better... as soon as I get out of the trees and on top or over the hill... I throw them all a 9-20+... but there is nothing I can do but shoot my neighbors or move! Also, mister Sixkiller505... just because I said channel 6 needs to shut up, I do not appriciate being though of as a harraser... I'm just trying to state it is unfair to run all that power since CBers are confined to 40 channels... and 6/11/and 26 bleed all 40! Channel 6 wouldn't be so bad if we had about 200 channels to go to though, but we're stuck... so if channel 6 is gonna run 1000's of watts of illegal power, go below 1 or above 40... why not break all the laws fully!

sintronic_cpu who called you a harraser? not I, sounds like you are the one being harrased ,i only said you were good to your nieghbors.sounds like i was giving you props.d104 ohio you are right also,i went to a guy"s house in your area who builds 5000 to 15000 AC boxs for mobiles.the bleedover is off the hook in your area.i talk on M108"s and only use the watts i need to communicate on 11 meter.my beams and where i live keeps 99% of the bleedover off my back, I don"t have to shoot across my neighbors house to talk to the west side or southside i talk on my ground plane local and barefooted.my neighbors are happy and i"am happy.my radio is stock that also helps.i"am not the bad guy i bet you never even heard of 505 love country.i don"t abuse abuseing draws attention!!and in 30 years i have logged in hundreds of communications( in my log book).and it is sad that more people on 11 meters(not just ch 6)can"t be more considerate of other operators right to use the airways.
