i was just hoping i could get a quick answer on this question - i posted below but no one replied. any help would be great!! i have an amp that is similar to a phantom 500. it is wired to be driven with a smaller amp. is this the best way to run an amp this size? i cannot find a schematic for the amp so i have decided to run it the way it is. is a 100 tube amplifier the route to go for a driver? thanks for any help in ADVANCE!!

What do you mean it is wired to be driven by a smaller amp? Have the driver tubes been removed or was the amp built that way? Just curious as I have an old Phantom I was going to play around with. Also, how many final tubes does it have? It would also help to know which 100 watt amp you want to drive it with or at least if the 100 watts is the peak power or not.

This stuff is really all just about numbers. What we don't have here to work with is ANY numbers at all. Does this thing have four 6MJ6 tubes driving 6 of them like a Phantom? Have you tried driving it with a radio alone? How much power do you get that way? The advice somebody gave you about "meant to be driven" might be right, might not. Any tube out there has a limit to how much drive it will take. How many tubes does the drive power FEED INTO, and what kind are they? Offering advice blind with no picture of the situation will only be helpful by accident. More likely it will lead to an "accident". Come on, BT22, give us all a LITTLE something to work with here.

Just some further explanation of what BT22 needs to get his amp back to normal. Some one has been in it and modified it for high drive. The receive amplifier has been disconnected. The grid tune circuit has been disconnected. Help is needed to put this unit back to original. Of course it is a phantom 500. A schematic is what he really needs. Does anyone have a lead on one for him? Thanks in advance.
