Im trying to hook a Para Dynamics PDC-256 Frequency counter to my Cobra 148GTL. It requires me to connect a 15 pf cap, 51 ohm resistor and PDC-256 cable to the VCO/Output Transformer in the radio. Then is says to solder the ground of the cable to a ground point adjacent to the VCO output transformer. I have taken some pictures of the inside of the radio and want to know if Im connecting to the right locations. Can I ground the cable to the case of the transformer?(2nd photo)

Just thinking out loud. You could go to radio shack and get the stated parts along with a small pre drilled and prepared circut board of a suitable type (just big enough to hold the cap and the resistor). The kind you need will depend on weither the two components are to be in a parallel or series configuration. I would solder the parts on the board and mount the board using doulble sided stickey cushion tape to an appropriate location in the radio in the component area of the radio connecting/soldering the leads comming off the circut board to the transformer on the reverse solder side of the board. Solder neatly, re words of warning below.

Words of warning. BE VERY CAREFUL when you solder on a high density circut board. Avoid solder bridges, use only a fine point pencil iron, do not overheat the solder point and use only the required amount of solder to get the job done. Most importantly, before you power up the radio, check the job with a magnifying glass to be sure that you did not make solder bridges and that the solder joints are of good quality.
