ok fellas.....my old Antron 99 flaked off in my hands yesterday...and after cussing it out and snapping the thing in half (what a temper huh?)...i've decided to replace it. So the question is my friends, which to go with? I've looked here online and notice Maco's 5/8 wave is about the same as the IMAX 2000. So, for those who have had both, which do you prefer? And I'll take all answers, but prefer the guys who've had both side by side. I'm an old schooler, have used Maco before, but I'm thinking the IMAX may be the way to go for throw it up in the air and it's done. Thanks fellas- Kirk AB8BC |

Hey Kirk, I have not had the Maco or the Imax side by side but I have had plenty of others and while there are some differences, it is almost not worth mentioning. I have never had anyone tell me that I was not readable when on the most modest of antennas in the group I have worked. Maybe I was a little stronger on one over the other, but it was not a big deal on transmit and sometimes I hear better on the antenna with less gain.
Regarding you experience with the A99, you must know what the best choice is. The old plug&play Imax is touted by many as the best all around, but I like the old A99, kind of like buy two for the price of the Imax. I like my old Starduster also, but they are hard to find.
I believe my old A99 is a fine antenna, but some are not so good (TVI). I take mine down once in a while and redo the finish. I have had mine up for maybe twenty years and it is like brand new.
Why don't you tweak your tuner a little with that old R7, won't it tune into 11 meters?

I have had both and prefer the Imax. Either antenna is a great choice but the Imax seems to have more punch when transmitting, It installs in minutes and the SWR is not affected by weather. and as far as the maintenance issues I had the Maco down a few different times, I had to adjust the tunning ring a couple of times and I also had one of the ground raidials break off after high winds.
So far I have not had one problem with the Imax. |

Maco all the way. It is harder to install and might need some adjustments but I think it will do a better local job then the Imax because of the radials.

ya know Marconi....I kinda forgot about that possibility. In fact, I don't even use the R7, although it is up. Maybe a mod for 11 meters is ion order here....thanks guys! Appreciate your help.--73 |

try stacking 2 antron or imax 2000 verticaly.it will boost performance up to 3 db over singles and will hear things much better than before.

I tried that bullet, it worked pertty good actually but made it somwhat directional. |
