I know someone that has a Cobra 25 that I said I would look at which means I'll probally try to fix it.Anyways, the problem is the mic seems to have a loose connection.I'm not sure if the problem is in the mic or not..it seems to be in the radio though. You think it could be a loose
solder connection possibally? It's like the mic comes disconnected in the middle of a conversation. You'll hear them talkin then it'll still be keyed up but you can't hear anything.
So I guess my question is...if it's not the mic what could possibally be the problem?

It is most likely the mic by the way you descibe it. Replace the cord or order a new mic. They are cheap..

Lets look at the problem one thing at a time.

So the guy is talking and suddenly no voice. Does he still have a carrier? If yes then it is probably not the radio itself. But even if the entire carrier and voice disappeared it still could be the mike or mike connectors.

Step one...easy thing first.

take the back of the mike off and look for wires that are not attached or flopping around. Wiggle the wires one by one and see if you can duplicate the problem. A loos wire you say? Solder away.

That is not the problem, then replace the back of the the mike and disammble the mike cord connector going to the radio. Look for cold solder joints, unattached wires, corrosion or any kind of bad or missing connection to the pins. If you find a bad connection, solder time once again. If everything looks OK then reassemble the connector carefully.

Wierd things time. If none of the above are the problem then hook up the radio to your station. Place a heavy book inbetween the mike and radio on the mike cord. Jiggle the mike cord at the connector, where the mike cord goes into the mike, and along the length of the mike. There just might be a break in the wires in the middle of the mike cord itself. If this is the problem just replace the mike cord.

If after all of this you find nothing try YOUR mike in it. The one that works. If everything works fine then just tell him or her to buy one of the mikes from our good host, Copper Elec.

Good luck...
