I was wondering if anyone was using this radio. I was thinking of buying a GOOD base unit. I cant afford the kenwood & ect. My main question was recieve improvement and power supply construction. Is it any good or any better than the older versions. And are there any other bases that would be a better option. I want good ears and good SSB clarity. I was thinking about maybe a washington with a channel kit but will the extras work good on SSB,
Thanks for any help

fdirsh,

I have had a 2995DX with the fan kit for about the last five months now.

It has been peaked and tuned and has the fan kit installed on it.

In my own opinion this radio by far has been the best base unit I have ever had, the Am and SSB is crystal clear, and has power galore.

The new 2995DX has it all. I run the new SUPER STAR SILVER SALUTE Desk Mic from Copper on it and all of the reports I have had is it is LOUD & CLEAR.

As for other radios including the WASHINGTON's President and Uniden I have always liked them for the clarity.

As for mics I have tried just about everything made and have a large Astatic Collection from the DN-50 up to the D-104 Final Edition's.

I always ran the Astatic or Turner mics until I Tested / Reviewed the Super Star Silver Salute Desk Mic and after all of the excellent reports I had on the clarity of it, It is the only mic I use now.

Our 2995DX is on most days for about 18 to 20 hours a day and I have had "NO Problems" with it at all. On a scale of 1 to 10 I would give this radio a 10+.

The only thing that I missed on the 2995DX was it not having the talk back and that was quickly solved with a minor mod that gave it talk back,
It is Not loud but works for testing mics & modulation.

Below I have included the links for the Ranger 2995DX and the New Super Star Silver Salute desk Mic.

I think you would be very happy with the 2995DX as a base for you.

say hey fdrish? on the 2995, rci.. ive had mine for about 3 months.. all that was done to the radio, because thats what i wanted, was to convert, and standard tuneup.. the reason for this was im using the radio as a driver for a 4 tube klv amp!! works great for what my use.. also running without the amp on, the radio has a lot of punch as is.. probley dx more barefooted then using it to drive the amp!! but, your option is in the tuneing of the amp, plain tune, or super peak and tweak?? to me either way the radio is awesome!! as the price, well its all in what the indevigable? wants.. lol, so hope me and the nickle helped some!!

Hey fdirsh, I also have a RCI 2995DX. All I can say is AWESOME!!!!. I used to have a Galaxy Saturn. So I wanted to upgrade, something with a little more balls, if you will. I've running a I-max 2000 up about 60 feet with GPK kit and a Silver Eagle desk mic. Very loud and Clear Audio. Been talking allover US as well as UK and Australia. Very happy with this rig. Give me a holler sometime. I'm always on 27.475mhz LSB. I go by CDX-501 here in Northern Nevada......73's

Hi, friends !!
I have a 2990dx, for more than a year.
The radio look nice, but i can't use it
the way i want, the radio is still in the box, because of the 11 meter. I live in The Netherlands Antilies, Curacao.
Please, can some one tell me, where I can find
the conversion module, so I can order it !!
Thanks,

Well the firts post said that he could not afford a kenwood, icom, yaesu, etc.but that RCI is like 600.00 isn't it ???? Well I picked up a mint yaesu ft-840 for $400.00 at a hamfest in july.If you wany a GOOD radio like a kenwood, yaesu, etc. then you can buy a like-new one for ALOT less than the price of that rci.RCI is a GOOD radio but why by that when you can have the kenwood that you REALLY want?? Just shop around the ham boards, hamfests, etc. there are probably 2-3 thousand ham radios for sale in very good to excellant condition at any one time all over.Get the kenwood or yaesu, you will be ALOT happier than the RCI.
