I don't know how well this will go over, but since Copper is already the best site out there for radio information and equipment......

They already have great auction deals too, why not have monthly sweepstakes or drawings? Like have a drawing for gift certificates or radio equipment. I know you can't just give stuff away like that, but I think all the hype from it would actually bring more business and you'd make more sales. One way this could work is starting out small, like the first few times make a drawing for a free $99 or less item and see if more sales and attention is brought about by it. If not, you won't be losing much and stop after a few trials. But I think in the end the word of mouth of the drawings would bring a lot more business. Even if the customer who wins has never bought anything from Copper, I'm sure all their accesories will come from you, or they'd come back for their next radio!

My local ham store was asking customers about this same idea and what we think about it. They said around Christmas season they were gonna try it. I think this would be perfect for Copper too. If you didn't want to make a drawing for new equipment, how about used or make up some grab boxes!

Just my 2 cents, let me know what you think Copper, also I want to hear other forum members input too! I think this would be a great idea!

We have been considering this idea but would like to have some sort of contest instead of a drawing. A DX contest has been brought up but I am not sure how to make it fair and verifiable. Any ideas about the DX contest or any other contest would be appreciated.

I don't know how to verify a contest, can only do that with QSL cards, and CB'ers don't have those. I was thinking more on the lines of a radio lottery of some sort. Instead of a giveaway, you can buy tickets online or something? Monthly drawings? For gift certificates maybe?

Or maybe a lottery deal and a contest hand in hand.

That way the winning grab box or product will be paid for by ticket holders, and if no one wins the prizes will tally up.

But the idea about the giveaway or lottery drawing would reach more people I beleive, some people might not be able to do that DX contest because of limited money and equipment, but the drawing would draw those people more into radio then they'd come back for more and more. Does that make any sense though? A winning person might not even have a radio yet, but them entering and winning will cause them to buy more stuff in the future because of it. Or while they are stopping by the website to enter they might buy stuff then, the drawing could be used as advertisement for other things.

I don't know how to explain all of this well worded, am I making any sense here? Sorry if I'm babbling :).

Why not a DX contest? I have all second-hand radios, A-99 and a homemade beam. Why would I need big bucks to enter a contest? Conditions determine a lot, not necessarily your setup.

As far as verification of QSO's there would obviously be 2 different parties able to confirm date, time, freq, mode and some info about the station.

What about the people who don't have a radio yet? What about people looking to start out. A DX contest will single out everyone who has no way to do it. There are enough DX contests for Hams anyways. The same Ham store that was asking about the drawings gives away stuff for Hams winning DX contests locally all the time.

They wanted to include people who don't know everything about radio and want to get a station and learn things. They were proposing this idea to bring more business from all, but especially those starting out.

Like Dell Computers, they don't limit you to having to previously own a Dell PC, or have a bunch of PC knowledge, or have to buy a new PC to enter the 50k a day giveaway... or the BMW a day giveaway, or the free PC drawings. It brings them more business to include everyone. Computer experts, novices, and just everyday people who might have never even used a computer. Even if they don't win, they usually end up being interested in the company or products. So the company gets more publicity by including everyone. Not just the big companies.

Guess I'm going about this all wrong. But just about every big Corperation or Company does this sort of thing to include everyone under every situation.

Should people who don't have a radio (hence they can't enter the DX contest) be excluded in a chance to win a radio? You never know what would happen, you might just cause them to get into radio fully and come back to Coppers for an I-Max 2000 and a KLV-1000, wether they win or not. Thats the business perspective I'm trying to get at.

Let's say lightning strikes my house and all my stuff goes up in smoke. I have no way to buy more for a while. Let's say I entered Copper's drawing and won a 2517. I GAURANTEE the second I get back on my feet, I will purchase all my meters, linears, and other stuff I lost from COPPER. AND I would make sure all my friends know about Copper too... thats the business angle I keep babbling about, LOL:).

Keep the ideas coming! We need more people in radio and if we can bring them to Copper Electronics, they get the best prices as well. And for those hams, future prospects. It's all good for Coppers.

DX contest? I like that idea as well but verification might be tough, unless certain people were designated as "check-in spots" and played referee. That is not a complete thought and needs much work but maybe it will kick start some thoughts.

For those that their radios are down or that don't yet have them, a chat room made especially for the event really helps. During the recent DX-a-Thon it was awesome! Only the second time I have ever "chat'ed" but people could still converse and talk about others they could hear. It was neater than I ever expected.

My thinking cap is not on right now but just some thoughts. I am all for contributing to the business that host this forum.

Why not have Copper assign "Copper Numbers"? Then say have a DX contest that starts say on Jan 1 and ends say April 1, the idea is to collect as many QSL from other ops . Only cotacts out side your state would count and all dupes would count only once!! All QSLs would have to have the Copper assigned number and with date time, and frequency on them as well as the person sending the cards, address and division (State, country)Copper would be the final judge and thier desision would be final!!
Just my idea!!!!
