I have a Galaxy Saturn Base and when you turn it on with the volume up and the squelch set it makes a squealing sound. It operates fine on TX but the squeal sound on RX is driving me nuts.
Whats the soultion. Thanks for any help. |

What microphone are you using? When you unhook the mic , does it still squeal?

Also I was wondering if anyone knows where I can pick up a new front pannel for the front of the radio. All the writing is worn off.

Hey, I know that one. He's hearing a "zing-Zing" noise even with the volume control turned down. This is the sound of five LED digits being switched on and off. They only turn on one digit at a time. Do it fast enough, and the eye can't see the flicker. It saved them a ton of wiring to do it this way. There are two things that will reduce it.
Find the ground wire from the counter module, usually blue. It is grounded on or near the MODE switch. This causes 'ground loop' noises in the audio ground wiring. Splicing an extension onto this wire, ground it near the big filter cap next to the speaker amp chip.
Move the bundle of wires that feed the digits farther from the other nearby wire bundles. You may hear an immediate difference just pulling them a half-inch or more apart.

Does your radio make any squealing noise when the volume is up and the squelch is off? What type of microphone is being used? A friend of mine has a mic where the audio line is always active and when he unkeys he can talk into the mic and hear himself through the speaker. If that's the case, maybe it's picking up feedback from the speaker. Just for info he's using a Washington, but it might be worth looking into. If you got another mic, try it out and see what happens.

The counter on my Galaxy 88 uses that type of switching and the flicker annoys the heck out of me.
Before anyone asks how, I have several eye conditons and either one or a combination of them makes the flicker apparent. Even my computer monitor at 75 or 80Hz has a noticable flicker from time to time. |

It is a frequency counter hum. I put a switch on it and when I cut it off there is no noise. I cant believe no one else has not had this problem. |
