My General Lee is a real swinger of a rig doing about .8W dk low pwr., swinging to 50+W. Basically this radio is wide open and is a modulator with an RK-56 mic.

I put my Palomar 250 (GOLD, 2 X 1446 pills) in line with it and I only get about 110W,.... that's it?!?!

When I put my Voyage VR9000 in line with the Palomar, it does about 200-225W.

If I raise the dk on low pwr on the General it just straight drives the Palomar with no swing,... still about 100-110W.

What am I doing wrong???...(besides running an amp, of course hehehehe).

Thanks

Mods done to the General:
Audio mods with capicitors (solder side).
22k res. inserted
1n4001 and 47ohm for swing (solder side)
VR9000 mod (spike tp and board with 18g. wire).

What does the Palomar 250 like for dk? This box has the 1446's in it.

Not getting any swing on this amp and it seems to straight drive it getting it pretty warm at about 100W on med. power switch. Had to put a fan on it!
Thanks

I would say get an amp with 2-2879's in it and then watch your meter. Take your pick, Texas Star 350 HD, X-Force 200HD, Joker J200, I mean any quality amp. Your talking about a 59 dollar gold copy of a copy that cost like ten bucks to build. Are you really surprised at the middle of the road performance. You might have an RMS reading meter as well, if so 110 watts for that amp is good. Take the whole set-up to a shop that has a bird 43p and check the numbers. Also do you really mean .8 watts dead key swings an honest 50 bird watts? And if that is the case have you ever seen that signal on a scope? And if things look good on the scope then man give me the name of the tech that did that. Wow.

B318-
Appreciate your thoughts. The Palomar does really well with my Voyage 9000. It peaks the amp really well at about 200-225W no problem. I just didn't understand why the General Lee couldn't drive it just as well. I'll just chalk it up to "each radio is different",... I guess.
Thanks

Yes, that is strange cause that General sounds like a hot radio and they are nice radio's as well.
