my uniden grant xl mobile radio is screwed up.it pops fuses and smoke comes out of the back of the radio.Please help!!!!!!!!!

Not a good sign when smoke escapes the set usaly stops working have you checked with a simple volt meter to see if you have a dead short some have a diode hooked across the 12 volt wires and if it shorts it will do exactly as you discribed.

Did you hook it up backwards? If so, it may have shorted out the polarity protection diode (1N4001 type I think).

There is a black diode about 1/2 inch from the power connector. Go to Rad Shak and pick up a 1N4001 , replace it and you are good to go..
