How does Copper shipping price add up? Do they make up for their low prices in the shipping or are they the normal $12 costs?

They are not like other online retailers (E-Commerce?) and increase shipping to make up for lower prices,,,,,in fact if you watch the specials occassionly they have FREE shipping on items. |

In defense of 558 and Coppers....
The last time I shipped my ham rig to California via UPS for a few little (and ultimately very expensive repairs) the shipping and insurance cost using the regular delivery plan ran me about 45 bucks. I will not shock you with the cost of overnight. The rig weighs just over 35 lbs as a point of reference.
Coppers like us has to pay the going rate for the man in the brown uniform. |

Copper is cheap I sent a TS-830 to a friend in austraila it cost $70 ground took 3 months to get there ( AIR 2 week dilivery was 220 and one week 270 ) it weighed 35 lbs. I Have bought many things from copper they are not padding the bill shipping just is not cheep so we cant blame them.

This myth has been floating around for a number of years mainly to help other dealers explain why they couldn't match our prices.
Shipping charges have risen every year since we have been in business.
Take for example an A99 antenna. UPS charges an additional handling charge of $5.00 because they have to lift it off the conveyor belt when it turns a corner. We ship thousands of A99's per year and you would not believe the number of them that UPS breaks on the conveyor line. If we ship it COD that's an additional $6.50. That's $11.50 before we even get to the actual shipping charge.
If you are concerned about the shipping on a particular order you can always call us for a shipping quote. That way you can compare our total price against a competitors total price. |

For me,usually, the competitors price be damned. I use Copper because they have virtually always have had what I needed in stock. When the credit card is a little tight they ship C.O.D.and if you have any problems,although I've never had any,Coppers is right there to take care of it. I stick with Coppers for those among other reasons. The only time I use anyone else if if Copper cannot get what I need or want and then I worry and fret until my order is here and I have inspected it seven ways to Sunday. |

The one thing I don't like is that they will not ship to a address thats not your credit card bill address. Like me I drive a truck and I'm not at home when UPS runs.
ForumMaster Note : I'm sorry for the inconvenience but this policy was started after we lost thousands to stolen credit cards. The thief would order with a stolen card number and have it shipped to his address. The true owner of the credit card would dispute the charge and have it removed from his card. We would be left trying to get the authorities to arrest someone at the address the merchandise was mailed to. You would think this would be simple but we didn't have any success after spending a few thousand more in legal and court fees to stop the perpetrators.
You can have a second shipping address added to your credit card if you call your credit card company and request it.

Flash i dont know of anyone who will ship to a address other than on the card unless you have a account.
Note to fourmmaster maby copper will someday have a " varified " buyer where a buyer could have a PIN which he could use to order and ship to a second address. I work at the county jail and see these jokers all day long. They do not care if they ruinned your life some have no remorse for anything. |

I can remember getting a radio from coppers backn in the early 1990s and then taking the radio to a local CB shop and the owner asking me were i got it. I told him i got it off of coppers for about $50.00 less than what he could sell it for. He of course balked at that but i said i coulnd afford what he charged. The guy then gave me a long boo hoo song and dance speal about how he can never compete and how he wished Coppers would go away and that they overcharged me in shipping. I showed him the invoice and the shipping was ONLY $12.45! He then calmed down and then REFUSED to convert my radio!!!!! Moral of the story; Most CB shop owners I know all hate Coppers but oh well that thier problem if they wouldnt jab their customers in the rear so much they wouldnt have that problem.... Most CB shops are a rip off anyways... |

Yeah, there is a cb shor out here called ****** Communications, the guy in there said hes had problems with copper for 20 years. And I asked how so and he told me to leave his store!!!

Taz We dont have amy CB stores here there is one in the city of TAMPA. I needed the pl-259 to rg-59 ( UG-176 ) adaptors radio SHACK (note small leters for radio) dont carry them any more but this place said he did so i went over there and when i got there i had to pay $1.25 EACH now last i looked COPPER had them for about 40 cents.... now guess where i will get them next time. As for prices he was 20-30 precent higher than copper on what little he had ..... no one beats copper its that simple! |

yes they do bruce. radio shack has went to a drawer system for parts. over each drawer is a flip chart with what is in each drawer. in drawer f2xx is the ug-176 and in drawer f2xx is the ug-175(i know this because i just bought some of each this week). this is for -ALL- radio shacks. i use them a lot and talk to the local manager, who told me this.
by the way, r.shack is doing away with their catalog(it is all on the net now). when i asked him what was the people without computers going to do, he pointed at the computer in the middle of the store(you know the one in all r.shacks thats homepage is the rshack webpage). man i'd hate to know that if i didn't have internet i'd have to drive all the way to the store to look at their electronic catalog. |

also, you may want to brush up on your reducers. the ug-176 is for mini8 coax. the ug-175 is for rg58. this may be why you couldn't find what you were looking for. |

Yes i saw that no catalog! They looked at me like i was Fred Flintstone when I asked for a catalog. Geese as for draws the store here has less parts in thoes than a well equpted junk box. John the ug-176 IS for RG-59 the mini-8 is a 50 ohm rg-59 size coax. Looks like its time to rake RADIO out of radio SHACK! |

The UG-176 is also the proper adapter for RG-59. Rg-59 and 8x are the same size....Maybe you should brush up on your reducers.
Also not every Radio Shack carries the drawer system....We have 4 here in town and 2 of them dont have anything for parts at all....and I mean anything!!!!!! |

My closest radio Shack has just installed the rack system mentioned. It is convenient and has had the piece parts I needed for once (for the most part, except those needed for our hobby such as the reducers also mentioned, PL-259's (the solder type), etc.
There are many useless radios Shacks around here, but one is somewhat trying to be better. I'm lucky it's the closest to me. However, even they could not find what I was looking for in their new electronic catalog (uhhhh hello, go to R/S and punch in speakers.....that is far from what came up until many (very slow) pages later). He whipped out the catalog and I pointed out the speaker that had been so well rated on eham. Gosh it was even in stock, and now my latest external speaker. I blame the inaccurate website as any visit there and your instantly lost.
Bruce, I feel your pain. I spent $2 each for PL-259's from the local CB shop and they weren't even amphenols (but better quality than R/S). Besides, R/S only had crimp ons. I will order a few more Amphenols from Coppers when I place my next order so I'm not in that predicament again.
Now if I could just walk out of there without them trying to sell me new cell phones, sattelite TV, batteries....
