Reading another post got me wondering what other hobbies (if any) do the rest of you radio people have? For me I guess Radio is #1....ham, c-b, frs, it doesn't matter, it's all radio. #2 would be buying and restoring vintage woodworking machines. #3 is putzing around with 70's and 80's motor cycles (I like taking neglected machines and giving them a second chance, if they are worthwhile) #4 would be cooking, I love to get in the kitchen and create. Lastly my girl friend is always there to share my passions so that would have to put here at the top of the list, but I don't think it's appropriate to call her a hobby. sb106.

I am an avid saltwater fisherman, although mostly done from my boat. So boating falls in there as well. I, for some idiotic reason have skilled myself in rough water boating, and have have pushed myself and boat beyong the intelligent limits to test us both in real situations. Stupid? hell yes but I have also rescued a few Maydays because of what I thought was somewhat challenging while they thought it was life ending. I guess I can pilot small boats pretty good.

I also own and ride a motorcycle so there is another hobby. Gosh, I hope I don't have some hidden death wish ???

BBQ'ing is big around my house as drinking some ice cold Barley Pop with friends and family.

Of course, there is always radio!

Radio isn't a hobby for me man...it's an addiction.

Other addictions...uh, hobbys include audio editing. I find it amusing to record clips of all the talking heads on the news and re-arranging their words to say the daftest things. This is purely for entertainment purposes only and to keep up the skill. I delete the recordings when I get tired of them.

I also like black and white photography. One of these days I'll set up that dark room.

Listening to music.

I find it helps me to exercise my creative thinking processes. If a dragon is about to bite your characters head off you have to become very creative very fast.

Yeah, I listen to some of the heavy metal/hardcore stuff such as Napalm Death, Hatebreed, Sacred Reich, Sam Black Church.

I also like the stuff that has, I guess you would call it a more progressive type sound such as Dream Theater, Labrynth, Hammer Fall. I always find it difficult to subdivide within music catagories, but then again after seeing Metallica under the pop catagory in some of the trade magazines, I don't feel to bad if I'm a bit off.

Of course G-Soul Rocks!!!

napalm death rocks.
im into a lot of stuff like stormtroopers of death, morician, cephalic carnage, skinless, pigsty, and a lot of stuff like that. if you can pick it up, you should listen to the soundtrack to the apacolypse on WHUS 91.7 out of storrs. i am on that show with my friend davefromthegrave and the slot is early friday morn, 12-2AM. you wont be disapointed.

metallica has taken a drastic backslide in recent years musically and in other ways. they were better as a thrashy band. nowadays, their music isnt all that far off the pop mark.

as for g-soul, ive never been a fan of limp bizkit and thats what g-soul sounds very similar to.

I'll try and listen, though I'm in New Haven and don't get good reception of stations in the 91.X range. I think theres a few low power translators in Hamden or something that create interference in my receiver.

I agree on the Metallica taking a backslide, though I just can't put them in the pop catagory. Maybe it's denial (lol) or that I think of pop music as more like the Avril Lavigns and the like. Who knows.

Ryan... Metallica (and a few other once good bands) has really gotten soft in the past 10 years now. I think the overproliferation of garbage like Britney Spears, In Sync, Backtreet Boys, and other gay sounding trash on the air has made a lot of the good bands go soft!! AUGH!

like most all music, except rap im not a thug life kind of guy.
now that my servise days are over
im getting back into powerlifting/weightlifting.
i used to be obscessed with bodybuilding and
powerlifting about 13years back, we used to mimic
world strongest man compitition events like picking up my buddy's chevette and walking with it
like a wheelbarrow to see who could go the farthest,or throwing concret blocks up in the air for height, and the farmers walk. this is were my passion burns deeper than the rf from my 6 element quad. besides being of nordic decent

unless thier shaddy.while he has a more agressive nature than is normal for the breed, more like a rottwieller.but is easily controlable by voice comands from the family.

thats my dime....

bruce,
dutchhounds are a neat dog as well,i seen a type of dutchhound ive never seen or new existed today on the tv today. thier was a big dog show and they had what the called a wired hair dutchhound. looks like a mix of a dutchhound and a wired haired terrier. odd looking animal.
ya Odinn's a pretty big boy ive got a fella a few miles away that also raises mastiffs his 8 year old males weight is around 240-250 pounds (biggest dog ive ever seen in person)but he's older and a bit over weight.his 3 year old male goes around 200 id say.
odinn gets along well with my wifes male cat we've caught them snuggled up together in the mornings when its cool outside.its funny because they act like they dont want us to know...
i almost took ownership of a guys bullmastiff but when i brought odinn over the meet him they didnt get along at all even on nuetral ground the bullmastiff was very very mean and would try to bite, and odinn wasnt going to put up with it. he'd mind and be good untill the other dog would try to bite.

Those chows are VERY agressive. I heard of a guy that was almost killed by one near were i live back in the 1980s and he ended up suing the people and they had to destroy the dog. It bascially mauled the guy and he is now wheelchair bound. All this happened just because he happened to walk across a small corner of the peoples yard to go to an adjacent neigbors house. The owners of the dod had it loose and they never even had any signs up or any type of restraint for the dog...

I like those mastiffs. We have a male boxer pup, Rocky. My family and I are fond of boxers, which Bullett probably knows were bred from mastiffs. They look similar if you dock 'em and cut thier ears. We left Rocky's ears alone, he's our buddy not a show dog.

It's neat how freindly those type of dogs are. When we come home we are greeted by this 30lb thing that is wiggling so much he can't walk in a line. Those mastiffs 'crab' like that when they get wound up too, don't they?

bruce,
i am trainning him to be a watch/guard dog. "not attack" to big and to much jaw pressure for that.
he's for the most part laid back but he dont care for strangers or anyone that "he feels" is threating towards our son(his little buddy). after i introduce someone to him and let him know thier a guest he's ok with them as long as they behave normally.
i usually have him out when friends are over and he loves the attention he gets, but he likes to be between me and the guest as this is thier natural
guarding instinct, but once he loosens up he's a 200 pound lap dog.

my sister has a black chow, man is this dog a man eater. i think it must be a chow thing as ive never been around one yet that didnt want to take a bite out of me. she also has a greatdane pup.

zunt,
one day id like to try the boxer. they look to be a very nice dog.
we used to breed dobermann's in the 70's and 80's. then i got into the mastiff breeds because there such good family dogs and have natural guarding skills without being overly ill tempered. and will usually only use as much force as needed to back down a treat, where as my dobe's were much more liable to bite with little
notice.
odinn has done the crab but he mostly hops like a kangoroo and gets all crazy when i go out side to greet him.

We got Dasy 13 years ago because my son is profoundly Autistic ( NOT RAINMAN THAT SAVANT ) and retarded. The shrink thought he might bond with a dog and increase his social skills. Well he could care less but she is sleeping at my feet as i type here at 4am. She at 35 lbs will go after anything that comes near the wife a great little guard dog although at 13 she cant run as fast any more. My Dad bread black chows back in the 20's and 30's one mean protective dog our last was about 60 lbs and feared NOTHING. Its interesting just how much a part of your life a dog can become even at the jail where i work you can kill someone in a fight no problem but hurt a dog and its your butt. Dasy only training is she makes a good foot warmer... chases cats ....and atacks the food dish unlike your dog who you seem to have trianed well and like yours go nuts when i pull up in the driveway.
Bruce
