There are plenty of new cbers on the forum wanting to know what the slang words(pills, footwarmer, barefoot, etc.) mean but are afraid to ask.

I would like for everyone to join in and enter any slang words they know with their definitions.

Once we've finished I'll compile them all and put them in an area where they will be easily found.

Thanks!

Turning a beam antenna using the Armstrong Method refers to those of us who are too poor or too cheap to buy a rotor for our beam so we have to resort to sticking our arm out the window to rotate the mast.

Kicker, Footwarmer, Helper, Linear, Friend, Coffee-warmer, Heater, Box, Tuber, Brick are all slang for illegal rf amplifiers used by some stations to exceed the 4 watt/12 watt power limits in the CB band. Those built for the CB band range in power from 40 or 50 watts to tens of thousands.

Superbowl - Channel 6 AM. The most powerful CB's in the world run here, where "A grand won't get you on the band"

This topic could get pretty broad, really quick, because "truckers" have CB slang, too that's very extensive....
ie.
Alligator- tire tread on roadway
Parking Lot- tractor trailer carrying cars, etc.
Bobtail- tractor with no trailer
Front Door- beginning of a long stretch of trucks
Back Door- end of a long stretch of trucks
Suicide Jockey- driver hauling hazardous materials

gosh,... it's endless!

Keep it coming, this is great! Can you imagine if you were new to cbing and you heard all this slang on the radio you would think everyone was talking in another language and might be afraid to join in for fear of looking stupid.

I know when I first started I thought everyone was talking in code but I eventually realized that it was just a quick way to convey their message.

Thanks!

Hammer Down–Driving fast (usually above the speed limit)

Hammer Lane–Fast Lane.

DX Land–Anyone you hear way out in the distance. Said when trying to talk to people long distance, equivilant of skip land. (How 'bout it skip land (dx land).)

Pump It Up–turn on an (illegal) amplifier.

Lockin' It Down–Keying up over other users on the channel

Back Out–Standing by to receive a transmission.

Big Radio–A loud, powerfull CB.

These next few I only know of as being used in my area.

Probation–Similiar to Lockin' It Down, except that the a single individual is generally the target at any given time rather than the entire channel.

Probation Officier–The person who's preventing a conversation from taking place.

Probation Station–The CB station used by the Probaton Officier to dole out sentencing.

I know this has nothing to do with CB slang but i saw a sign posted in a small truck stop in NY state once that read as follows; "No Booze, No Dope, Illegal drugs or prostitutes on premises. Yes this means YOU! No exceptions!!!!" Come to find out the owner aparently had some run ins on these subject matters so he posted the signs..... :-)
