I saw in another post here that applying a coat of white primer will make the fiberglass spreaders on an antenna last longer. Does it have to be white or can you use colored paint? I am going for broke and buying a Signal Engineering White Lightning 4 element and anything I can do to "help" the neighbors ignore it will be to my benefit. Would it hurt to paint the boom along with it?

Might be best to use nonmetallic paint though. I saw a guy take a A-99 once and painted it red white and blue (this was well before the current G.B.A. craze we have now due to 9-11) but he later found out using regular paint that the SWRs went well over a 2.5! I guess the paint had some metal flakes in it LOL So use caution when painting a beam. ;-)

Hummm camaflage for a cb ant! I coat my antennas with krylon clear spray if you dont they turn to rust real quick. ON TVI the FCC is clear if the devise is not a radio such as a hi-fi or vcr or computer its the OWNERS problem and of course no one hear runes a LINEAR right??

it helps keep uv rays from working on the fiber glass, will make it last longer.as long as you keep a good place to ground i suppose you could paint the boom as well.
ive painted my antron 99's and tower to help them blend in some.(stacked vertically)
the top one is light blue to blend in with the sky the lower one is a brown color to blend in with the trees, the tower is also painted in rustolium rusty metal primer witch blends in quite
nice with the trees.
if it was not for my 15ft mast pipe on the top antron 99 (aluminum paint)youd
never know it was there from the road. im going to repaint it in the spring to match the tower.
from a distance it looks like someone put a pole up in a tree.haha

he's right about not using any type of metalic paint it will mess up your antenna.

I knew another guy that put a army bigstick in a tree out back of his apartment house he was renting (he wanted to buffalo his lardlord into thinking he didt have a radio anrenna!! LOL!!) and in the summer you could NOT see it at all!! In the fall and winter you could barely see it unless you were looking really hard. he had it like 85' up in the top tip of the tree.
