Just picked this radio up from a yard sale, don't even know if it works yet. It has a headphone jack where the Mic goes???!!! What is this about??!! I opened it up, it appears to have 2 wires leading to it(the plug).

This is an SSB radio,it appears to never have been "touched". I think it has an 858, according to the internet info I found on it.

harvester,

The phone jack on the front of radio is for the mic.

That's what it is suppossed to have.

Did you get a mic with it?

If not you will have to wire a mic to it.

harvester,

I cannot find the stock wiring for it but if you put an Astatic mic on it the wiring for the Phone plug would be:

AUDIO / WHITE Wire ~ goes to TIP
SHIELD / Wire ~ goes to SLEEVE
COMMON / BLUE Wire ~ goes to SLEEVE
TRANSMIT / RED Wire ~ goes to RING

Hope this helps some.

i opened the radio and looked inside .
it appears to have only 2 leads going to the plug
would'nt the radio only need the transmit wired in..?

can this mic plug be by-passed and solderd direct

i guess i should put some fire to this and see what happens.
thanks
