Which one is better? Also is the older 148 gtl or the grant LT a good choice? I found a good clean grant LT for 125.00 used and the owner said he will go down on price. It is channeled and peaked and tuned.. What would be the best rig to get? |

At Copper's price of $134.99 the TR 296 is the best choice. It is an older style Cobra 148GTL just rebadged as a Texas Ranger. The Grant LT is not worth getting. $134.99 for a killer loud radio is a bargain in my book. I think the same radio is available with the Superstar name on it too.......talk about many choices for the same radio.

Sooooo which one would be the best choice? The 696 or the 296. I noticed the 696 is cheaper than the 296 for some oddball reason and the 696 has a freq counter... What i want is a radio that is as close to a 148 GTL as i can get... Im also looking for a radio that is as close to a Cobra 29 LTd as close as possible. Isnt the uniden PC 78 alot like the older 29 LTD? |

Ranger has been running a special on the TR396F and TR696F. They have since taken the special off the TR396F which raised our cost $20. I saw the discussion here and asked management to hold the price as low as possible for a while longer. They couldn't stay at $99.99 but they did only increase the price by $10 to $109.99. I'm not sure how much longer they will stay at that price so if you're interested you might want to hurry. I'm not sure why Ranger didn't remove the sale price on the TR696F but I don't think they will stay down that low much longer because just as CM3885 pointed out it's cheaper than the TR296. Usually they will run their stock down to an acceptable level and then raise their price back up. If your looking for a 40 channel cb radio with ssb and a frequency counter I don't know of anything that is less expensive. The only other comparable unit that I can find is the Galaxy DX959 which we sell for $149.99. |

OK, so it's (TR 696F) like the 148F instead of the 148GTL. Don't they use the same or very similar boards? I like the one with the freq counter (696F). |

I kinda want to stick with the radio that has the closest board to the old 248 GTL as i can get. I used to have a 148 and i loved it on AM and SSB Great audio! But on the other hand i kinda want to find me another 29 ltd classic or a uniden PC 76 xl. I dont know if the new 29 ltd classic (the one with the mike in the front) is anything like the old 29 ltd that had the mike in the side of the case. Same goes for the new uniden PC 78 i dont know if they are as good as the PC 76xl. Hopefully someone that is in the know can chime in here and set me straight! LOL!!!!! |
