I HAVE REDISCOVERED MY K40.HAS ANYONE TRIED RUNNING ONE OF THESE WITH AN AMPLIFIER HOOKED IN LINE? HOW DO YOU SHIELD THE K40 FROM THE RF? IT WORKS OK BAREFOOT.

The K40 Speech Processor microphone processes audio and has nothing to do with your RF.

I highly suggest that with the K40 S.P. mic, you do not run your modulation past 100% on negative peaks. In other words, don't run it with a radio that has the modulation limiter clipped or removed, and if you do, don't turn the microphone's output gain up enough to clip your RF envelope.

By the way, I now have a K40 Speech Processor microphone specimen of my own. It is too bad this microphone is no longer available. Without question, anyone properly running one of these microphones on the air would have a truly 'stand out' signal. If I ever get a C.B., I will run this mic exclusively.

I have one and i found out as well that it will NOT work on a radio that is either peaked to the max or a radio that has the limiters removed. I did run it on my old Robyn 520 D i used to have and it sounded great but i ran it on my cobra 29 i used to have and the mike sounded horrible but it didnt help matter that the 29 was peaked and tuned and had the heavy final installed! I didnt really need a power mike with the 29!

Hey thanks guys for the tips, but I may have given you the wrong impression ,my barefoot stock unmodified straight out of the box Uniden Grant gets very good reports but soon as the Palomar TX5500 amplifier is activated my audio distorts even with the mike gains down low,yet other non stock mikes have worked fine.

Sounds like you are simply over driving your amplifier. Your carrier should be like 1 or 2 watts and your PEP should be 5 watts or less into the amp. Any more than that and you will be clipping the positive peak side of the RF envelope and it will sound fuzzy and muffled. Also, not as loud.

Unless you have modified your radio for 10 meters and you are a licensed ham, I should not even be involved in this conversation. Please excuse me if I cannot offer any more help.
