It's hard to say which one with out a watt meter because both of them wont do the same wattage.
The best thing to do is hook each amp up and get a radio check from someone about 15 or 20 miles away.
and if possible get or borrow a watt/swr meter off some one

My guess is the Ab1 Palomar will be cleaner.

A watt meter may not be of help. Not meaning to start the tight meter arguments, in order to get one average S unit increase per the books you have to more than double your output power. If I remember correctly you have to multiply your power output by three point something for each unit.

And while a power output may make you smile looking at a dial the person doing the receiver may just not know the difference (unless you tell them of course).

If we just for the sake of example simplicity say you need to triple your power to get one extra S unit. Say you and I start talking and my meter shows an S of 2. You are running 4 watts. So you add 8 more to run 12 watts (4 x 3). I will see an/one S unit rise. To get that extra S unit beyond 12 watts I will have to increase my power to 36 watts (12 x 3). The next S unit beyond that will require I run 36 times 3 watts. the next unit will require 3 times (36 x 3) etc etc etc.

So the moral of the story is simple. Eventually you reach a point where to get one singel S unit you have to run massive anounts of power. Eventually you have to stop and catch your amplifier breath and say enough.

The Elite is the better of the two.
