If you put a meter in line with this radio and key it, you will probably see a half-watt of power or maybe less. I'm with Dinker1. The final power stage in the transmitter is NOT well protected from stress caused by damaged coax or antennas. There is a good chance that the final transistor has melted a plastic screw or insulating washer under a metal screw that holds it to the heat sink. This permits the final to pull away from the heat sink. Usually there is an audible "SNAP" noise from the final soon after. If I'm right, it will take a new M3 plastic screw AND a final, and maybe a new base resistor to boot. If a replacement final is not installed correctly, it will fail prematurely, too. If you repair the radio, DO put a SWR meter in line with the antenna before putting it to regular use. You don't want to immediately pop the new part with a hidden antenna problem. 73 |
