Bigbob P.S. my heart goes out to the families of of the shuttle victims.

bigbob,
if you cant find replacement rods for this antenna
you can make them out of 3/8ths fiber glass rods but youll have to use some scrap tubing to put in the element from the hub(a short piece will work then install the new rod and secure into place.)

i use these rods to build quads with. you might be able to find them at farm implement stores as they are used as electric fence posts.

Bigbob,
maybe this will help. www.mgs4U.com They sell fiberglass spreader arms, although not specifically mentions for the PDL.

BIGBOB you could try some fibreglass fishing poles. They should work fine as long as they are not impregnated with carbonfibre OK

Re BB..

As a last resort you could do two things.

Item 1, get some fiberglass fabric, resin, hardener and some light sandpaper from Wal Mart or your marine supply store. Measure and mark how much of the arms are exposed and do a little fiberglass coating on the exposed parts of the arms. The arms do not have to be flexible to function.

Item 2) get some regular aluminum tubing and just add a piece of PVC pipe insulation over the ends so that the reflective loop does not come in contact with any part of the aluminum tibing. I put a piece of PVC pipe about 12 inches long/scrap I got for free over the aluminum tubing. The pipe was bigger than the tubing. I drilled a hole thru both the PVC and the Aluminum tubing and used a small stainless bolt and nut to thru said holes to hold the PVC in place. Anoter hole at the far end in the PVC was drilled thru which I ran the wire. It was not pretty but it worked.

May your day be productive....
