Do you turn your amp on with the radio at the same time, or have you talked all over the place to find out you forgot to turn it on.

Karatebutcher,

I pretty much leave the amp off and call out barefoot nowadays unless I have a severe need for that power. With the base station, almost all of my DX hookups are without power, just riding the conditions.

If I were mobil like your setup, might be a different story. From your comments, sounds like that barefoot radio is blowing smoke!

Alsworld that Galaxy 93T is a really nice radio, I will have to say it is the best for this period in my life, in the 70's it was the cobra 138 mobil, then the 148 GTL mobil. but the 93T you need know power really, unless you feel guilty for not using your amp.
Thank you for your comment, I guess no one forgets to turn on their amp.

Buck in the mobil I carry a small pen light flash light, and when I turn the amp on I place the light on the dash, Last week I left the lights on , on the car when we went to the movie, it was really raining and there I was standing with battery cables in hand, soaked,

Hey Karatebutcher-
Good Lord you must have had some $ to burn because I can't believe that you replaced a 148GTL!! Great radio, plenty of audio,... hey it might not have all the swing the 93T has but I use mine as a base and I get nothing but compliments on it. I run barefoot most of the time and only a small Tx star mod to get outta the neighborhood for skip. Put the 93T on the shelf to look at and drop the 148 back in the vehicle for those lake runs! LOL

Have a good one!

XLAXX--lovin' my 148 GTL

Re Buck...

Try this....

Go get one of those heavy duty relays that come with those high intensity off road light kits. Now hook the power supply in line with the relay contact points. Power the relay coil using say the radio circut on your vehicle. Now every time you turn off your vehice the radio circut is broken and the relay opens and auto shuts off power to your amp.

XLAXX, Yes the 148 GTL is a wonderful radio, I have a Cobra 29 LTD that you would really like, a 23 channel, and is strong, it is old also, don't worry about the 148 gtl I will put it in my wifes XTerra, and the 93T in my Pathfinder.

DE...thanks for the advice....I might try that but its not too big of a deal since the amp is in my house...I have it powered from a deep cycle marine battery that is mounted in a box in the shed right outside my radio room. I also have an alternator and an electric motor mounted next to the battery That I use to charge it. I have two switches plumbed inside my room for it..one to turn the motor on and one for the 12v to supply the alt with a field. It works suprisingly well and it didnt cost a dime...I had the alt and motor and my mom works in the office of a battery factory!

hey guys !! if you have a sweet sixteen you can hook it up to the key switch !! that way you turn it on its on and if you turn it off its off !!!!lol
but if you have a smaller one then just take it apart and solder a peice of wire to the light then run it to your dash !!!!! it works for me !!! but its just my 1/2 cent
