THANKS Tech307!

Well, I finally got around to writing this.
Just wanted to publicly thank Tech 307 for bringing my old Cobra 148 GTL back to life.

A little history on this one,... bought the Cobra
148 GTL for $100. It worked OK, doing about 10-12W swing with adjustable AM power via SWR knob. Extra channels were via Hi/Lo and Brt/Dim switches. This radio was cherry. Very few scratches, cosmetically a 9. I sent it to 307 to peak and tune it, put the extra channels on the back with new switches, and install a rotary knob for AM drive. Channel indicator flickered in and out too for no reason.

The Hi/Lo and Brt/Dim switches didn't work anymore because the extra channels were put in. The SWR knob couldn't be calibrated either because the AM drive was there too. Anyway, when it got to 307, the radio harnass was apparently in shreds. Wires were not where they were suppose to be,... hence, a complete mess. You know it's a mess when 307 has to ask the Forum members to send a stock 148 GTL in for wire identification!!

Anyway, 307 got this radio back to stock with the additional mods I requested. It dk's from about
0-5W swings to about 20W. The clarifier was unlocked to begin with but 307 lined it up and it is smack, drop dead, on the money, at 12 o'clock on LSB and USB.

I rarely,... and I mean HARDLY run power at all. This barefoot radio is surprisingly LOUD for its age (1991 made in the Phillipines). It has the Uniden board in it. I have received nothing but compliments on it. I run a Turner +3B with it just barely cracked open. This rig really cooks!

Again- 307 is definitely the "Go to man",... so much that I am trying to get him to do the same to a Grant XL (old chasis/Uniden) that I just got today! I completely trust 307 and would recommend his services to others looking for repairs.

Thanks again 307! Also, thank you Copper Tech Services and Forummaster for allowing access to the Open Forum and "Ask the Tech". Without it, I would have had a mud duck radio. We're wavin'
