Does anyone have one of these or any info on them like a manual or schematic. Mine has a bad transformer in it and I need to know the voltages off the transformer. It has 6 wires, 2 to the scan tube 2 to a regulator board and 2 to the power light up front any Ideas. Im at the end of the street since I can find NOTHING on-line on it.

A bad power transformer, eh? Did you happen to notice a half-dozen or more dark, overheated resistors on the circuit board? One of these that was run a lot of hours will reveal the green (brown?) circuit board laminate blackened around the high-voltage parts. Once it gets black enough, the laminate stops being an insulator and becomes a resistor. The leakage current starts overheating the parts, and overloads the power supply.

The transformer that it was built with was custom-made, so having a replacement made will cost enough to just go out and buy a used scope that already works.

20 years ago I got so frustrated trying to get a diagram out of Wawasee Electronics that I hand-drew a schematic of one. I just now looked for it, and it's not filed with the rest of the Black Cat stuff. Don't know, might never find it. I have seen some cheap, marginal scopes in my day, but the JBC-1000-SM really takes the cake. Once it's fixed, it will still be borderline suicidal. If you can find a late-60's or early-70's copy of the ARRL Radio Amateur's Handbook, thre is a "generic" oscilloscope schematic in there that looks a lot like this one, except that they left out every part they could and still get it to light up.

A custom-made power transformer for this thing will probably cost $150 to $200. Bear in mind that the 6.3V AC winding that lights up the heater in the CRT must be insulated for 2000 Volts. Most single-output filament transformers are NOT. If you try to replace it with two separate transormers, the one that feeds the CRT heater will require an exotic high-voltage breakdown rating. That won't be cheap, either.

Im looking through my transformers I got, I found the HIGH voltage AC last night it was working, WOW it was exciting too. The other looks like its 6 volts. Slowly but surely I'll figure it out> I got a pin-out on the tube now. So thats a start found a site that suppose to have the circuit diagram but it not working "radioera.com".
So Im just gunna keep plugging ahead. Thanks for looking.

Crafter, I'll keep an eye peeled for the missing hand-drawn diagram. Never know when it will turn up by accident. Haven't worked on one of them in two or three years, so it's probably stuck inside the wrong folder somewhere.

At least the transformer isn't dead, after all. I can tell you to check every variable resistor, especially the brightness and focus controls. They are prone to break down. When they do, the trace on the CRT face usually goes completely dark.

If I find that drawing I'll give a shout.

There is a bad winding in it cause it heating up and stinking. My tube checks good so far and has a white face.
