I own 2 Red Devil amps. The 250 HD, and the 350 HD(HI- Drive) Required imput drive for both amps is 8 to 12 watts. My Uniden 78 LTW is putting out 4 watts drive. At 4 watts drive will both these amps run cooler and last longer running these on the high-side? Also, what would be the RMS/Peak wattage for both the 250hd and the 350hd at 12 watts drive? Thanks in advance. |

I am not up on red devil amps, but if they are truly HD amps then they should handle 20-25 watts of swing or drive. I am not sure what pills are in them either but a 2-4 watt dead key will sound and work best. Don't forget HD (hi drive) means the amp can handle a higher swing wattage, not a whopper of a dead key. As far as output, not sure, depends on the finals. Just because an amp has 250 on the front does not always mean it will do 250 watts. Most 225's and 250's are good for 140-190 honest watts on a bired 43p. Take care. |

I should also add, if you want the best out of those amps, have a clean peak and tune done on your radio. A dead key of say 3 watts and 12-16 watts of swing is easy to get from your radio. That would work great with either of your amps. |

The Red Devil amps are very similar if not the same as the old "commanders" of the 80s. They tend to run very hot and have funky input and output swr. For the 250 the radio should be set so the 250 on hi keys 70. For the 350 the radio should be set so the 350 on hi keys 85. Depending on the radio driving them (rms/peak) the 250 around 70/210, the 350 around 120/325. |

Thanks all, I just found out that the Red Devil 250 amp uses 1446 pills, and the Red Devil 350 amp uses 2 2879 pills which would account for perfomance differences. |
